Sharks rugby player Kyle Cooper made a brief appearance in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Friday for the second time this week after he was arrested for assault.

The case was postponed for further investigation.

Cooper is out on R500 bail.

He is charged with common assault and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Cooper allegedly struck 19-year-old Camilla Johannessen during an argument and was then involved in an altercation with Johannessen’s father, Donald, in the car park.

The incident took place at Fynnlands Bar, on the Bluff, shortly before 02:00 on Sunday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said.

Gwala said the father suffered bruises on both arms and his ribs and he had a swollen eye.

Donald Johannessen’s wife, Cindy, previously told News24 that they were not comfortable speaking to the press.

"We need to speak to our lawyer first because we don’t want to say anything that is going to be turned against us and jeopardise our case," she said.
