Shipping from US?

So I recently discovered Newegg.com *Drools*

Have to say, I love this USA rebate stuff ;)

So I've ordered all "non-moveable parts" Motherboard,Gfx,Ram,Cpu-AMD X2 6000+ ;)

Now I'm wondering, exactly how dangerous is it to ship hard drives?

And before anyone goes and flames me for not buying this locally, I've saved around R2000 on it including the shipping.

How do you claim the rebate from here, can you? How are you shipping it btw, via a remailer? Known quite a few people that have shipped hard drives and they've never had any problems, haven't done it myself.

www.wantitall.co.za can do it on your behalf and ship it here in about a week or so to your door. Yeah I'd also like to know how you're shipping it here and using the rebates? If it works, then I'll also give it a try.

But then back to the topic. You think they have to put fragile on the box or anything of that sorts?

How much does wantitall charge anyway?

U guys want anything? ;)

You might get a lot of people taking you up on that offer. :D

Best to mark it fragile just in case I guess, although just make sure it ties in with whatever you put on the customs forms. :D

The other guys here will tell you how to have it marked, I remember someone saying to mark it as a gift to avoid some costs or something like that, I don't import often so I don't know exactly how it works.

Yea, I've had the first batch marked as gifts and no customs.

Just wondering with the hard drive, as from here to there, lots of throwing of boxes and I don't throw hard drives around ;)

Have had an iPod and 2 Creative Zen Visions shipped from the US over a period of time. They're all HD devices, and no problems with any damage.
Shipping was EMS (Post Office Couriered Airmail).

Well the price of something I want from Amazon/Newegg is about $60 (about R430 or so) and they're charging R800 for it, so double.

Shipping will set you back 25-40 USD.
Tax, if caught, will cost you 14%.

So the saving for single small items isn't thaat huge.

Customs keep a computer database of each parcel you receive.
Call them and give your name and address, you'll see :).
So the next parcel you so receive may become taxable.

Customs used to be more lax in the past. You could get like a ton of DVDs from places
like CDJapan which openly said on their website that they don't publish the
cost and mark as gift to "avoid customs duties" - and the items went thru
for free. They don't do this anymore as they had some legal problems.
Nowadays if an item arrives with a low price (its a big box) customs
makes you cough up the invoice to collect it.

So does wantitall charge on a % or a fixed cost?

What about the import duties then?

10) What about import duties and VAT?
www.wantitall.co.za has extensive experience in importation, and for that reason we are able to accurately quote the final landed price of items in South Africa. All prices you see on the online store are inclusive of all duties and VAT. We will facilitate the process whereby items are cleared through customs.

From their site.
