I recently attempted to open a new 8ta data contract - the 10 gigs a month contract for R199. After reviewing many of the my broadband forums and checking the signal in my area I submitted all of the required information for the credit check with the Rosebank Shop and was advised that I would be able to pick up the sim card within a few days. After repeated calls to the manager / individual that i had submitted the application with, over many days, he finally confirmed that the case number had been closed by credit. No account though had been opened as there appeared to be a fault with the credit system. After confirming that all supporting documentation had been provided the manager confirmed he would deal with the credit department and revert shortly with an answer. I recently applied and had pre- approval from a bank for a home loan so am comfortable that my credit standing is good. Needless to say, he never called back.

I therefore decided to call the call centre 081 180 and asked to speak to the credit department. they confirmed the case number had been closed because they did not have supporting documentation. I suggested that i should rather cancel the application since 2 weeks had expired since my application was submitted and I have had no response. The consultant suggested that I wait as he would call the branch manager and sort out the issue - Apparently there was no problem with the credit system after all - the application had been closed due to the credit department not receiving the supporting documentation. I reluctantly agreed to wait a few more days and allow him to deal with the store manager.

Now almost 3 weeks after the innitial application, I still do not have any answer!!! I have therefore decided to rather purchase a cell C contract and cancel the application. Try calling the manager / the store number!! Nobody picks up the phone. After leaving repeated messages on the managers cellphone to call me, i have decided to call the call centre again. The only way for me to cancel the application is if i go into the store!!! #$%ARG!!!!

I have 2 concerns with this... What has happened to my supporting documentation? I am hoping the information has not been sold, etc. Secondly what happens if 8ta suddenly activate the account?- At this rate they probably will not call me to tell me the account had been activated. The first I would hear about it is when I see the debits from my account! The 6 or 7 day cooling off period would have expired and now I would be liable to all sorts of penalties!!!

I do not expect 8ta to respond to this. The cell C process was much easier - Received my contract in store with minimal waiting time! To all of those looking to open an account with 8ta you can only do so in store!-Beware!!!!
