Shoddy Service Today

I tried to use my GPRS connection today on MTN. I connected as usual and opened a page on mybroadband - again as usual. It opened and then I looked at a thread.

Suddenly it all came to a grinding halt. I kept trying to reload, but to no avail. I disconnected and reconnected again, but still had no luck.

I rang 173 and spoke to a man called Shabalala (surname). He sounded very machine-like and an attitude that was the very essence of impersonal. I explained the problem. His immediate reply was that Mixit was to blame and I should just keep trying or try later. I explained that it appeared to be more than that, but he wasn't going to listen. In fact the more I tried, the more he wasn't going to listen.

Finally I asked to speak to a supervisor. He seemed to have a problem with that and repeated his Mixit theory for the 3rd time. I had to really press him around 4 times to get someone else to speak to me. After a long silence and without the obvious "I'm putting you on hold/through" courtesy, I finally I got a female supervisor who was more reasonable. She immediately put me throught to "data support".

Now this guy sounded like he was in his living room at home. Completely disinterested, bad accent, poor line, low volume voice etc ... I explained the problem and was told "nothing wrong with GPRS" and the problem was "cookies".

Yep, I had too many cookies and that was the problem. When I queried his cookies theory he just disappeared. I could hear him talking another language in the background.

He never did come back, even after 15 minutes or so.

I left things for a few minutes and tried again. As if by miracle, it all came back to life again.

My overall impression is very poor.:mad: When the service goes down, I really expect some concern, sympathy and a reasonable explanation - not an inaudible 'automaton' telling me stories about Mixit and cookies!! -- that I expect from Virgin, not MTN.

Get with it MTN. Sunday is NOT a good excuse for poor service.

I fully agree with you, ive sent this through to Data support supervisors- if you could Pm me ure details il make sure whoever did this to you is reprimanded and coached in the correct way on how to deal with clientele- apologies once again Skeptik:(
