I saw a video now of WA of the shooting, seems to support a dispute in the parking rather that a robbery of a tourist, so rather desist from that narrative.

Yeah but that's a rifle, I had no idea tourist were allowed to carry personal defense pistols.
I guess i learnt something new today.

Yes, you apply for a permit to allow your weapon into SA, your licence issued by whatever jurisdiction is still valid. From my understanding the police will do the checks to see if you are the owner and licensed to carry it. Then they supply you with a temp permit for the duration of your stay. Does not only apply to rifles. Iirc you can bring in up to 3 firearms.

Police have arrested a 45-year-old man after fatal shots were fired at Menlyn Maine shopping centre on Monday morning.


The shooting happened in the shopping centre’s parking lot when an apparent altercation broke out.

The victim had been in the company of two other men when one of them allegedly approached the suspect. An altercation ensued, said police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters

Preliminary reports further indicate that the suspect retreated to his vehicle and returned with a firearm, fired more than one shot and the man who was attempting to defuse the situation was hit,” she said.

Peters said the victim was declared dead on the scene.

Police seized the firearm allegedly used by the suspect for further investigation.

If you read the article it will make a bit more sense.

3 people (of which the deceased is one) was in a group and there was some altercation with the fat dude. That seems to have died down at a stage. The dude that got shot tried to restrain his friend who I would assume wanted to have a got at the fatty.

The fatty (before the clip starts, walked to his car and got his gun) then as the one dude is trying to restrain his friend from having a go at the fatty gets shot.
