Shoprite and Scania launch fully-electric glow-in-the-dark truck

I see it as a good thing BUT not in our country with the way people drive and or loot/steal. I still do not understand if it has solar how does it not give it a charge as well why have they not come up with something like that.

Now they're a target for both the regular truck looters and the illegal scrap "collectors".

They look pretty cool though, and if they save the company money relative to operating ICE vehicles then good for Checkers.

This can’t come soon enough. Go Shoprite!
When Woolies gets wind from Shoprite that the running costs are like 10-20% of a diesel truck with practically no maintenance watch them do their whole fleet too.

Gonna get 'jacked for the batteries, in 3....2.....1.....

They need to mine a bit faster. I need another 5KW battery pack at lower prices!
This is the biggest load of crap. I don’t see the fascination with the media focusing on these artisanal miners. There is literally a giant well run mining operation in the DRC by Glencore. Similar to Lonmin or Anglo here. Literally the same health and safety requirements.

Yet everyone focusses on the kids and opportunists that are like 100m from the fence and are trying their luck at DIY mining.

Yes an underground black market for cobalt etc. exists but it also exists for petrol and diesel and nobody is crying about the kids selling petrol by the 1l coke bottle on the side of the road in the DRC…

Is glow in the dark decals legal according to traffic laws

Alright this is good news and all, but it can never really get to scale, Checkers (Shoprite) is always piloting new concepts e.g cashless stores it's going to be an extra couple of decades for this to become mainstream in Sweden nevermind in the South of Africa, by the time its mainstream the data they are collecting now will be useless. Then you have the current energy crisis that wont be sorted anytime soon, solar will never work as the sole option.

This is the way to go, but a bit premature, it will be great to see figures
