another day, another data breach in South Africa. MyBB should have a dedicated data breach section on the forum because there are so many it's hard to keep track of them all

It's very seldom that these data breaches are discovered by the organisation themselves. Usually the first anyone knows about them is when the data is made available on the dark web, and only then is action taken to discover the where, what, when and how. And even then it's almost impossible to prove any of those things especially if the "hacker" knew what they were doing and deleted all trace of their activities.

“Affected customers will receive an SMS to the cell number supplied at the time of the transaction,” the company explained.

“Access to affected areas of the network has also been locked down. The data compromise included names and ID numbers, but no financial information or bank account numbers.”

The company added that it amended “authentication processes” as well as “fraud prevention and detection strategies” in an effort to protect customer information.
