I'm positive that I have been shortchanged units from last month. I can't get any joy from e-mails - think their inboxes are full - and they won't let you post on Twitter. Consequently other people would also receive less units than they've paid for. If you have any helpful advice on who to contact it would be appreciated. Or even better if you are connected to JHB City power let me know how I can get this resolved. Thanks.

Sorry, neglected to say the discrepancy was for June. If their calculations are out, then the error will be carried forward to July. Am aware prices have increased for July.
Maybe you can post what you paid and what you received? Also, was it your first purchase for the month?

These are June prices for both. Purchased on June 13 & 28.
My first purchase was 350 units for R683 (350*1.6969)= R593.915+tax = R683
Second purchase was for R360 and only got 137.4 units
The way I work it out is
150 units @ 1.9465 =R291.98 This would be in the over 350 unit tier and under 500 Total so far 500 units
9.25 units @ 2.218 = R20.5165 Over 500 tier
Levy of 9.25@.06=R0.555 payable over 500 units
R291.98+R20.5165+R0.555= R313.0465 +tax= R360.
So I reckon I should have received 159.25 units so 21.85 short.

Do you know what tiering is and how it works?
Tier 1 - 0 to 300 units charged at lower amount.
Tier 2 - 301 to 500 units charged at slightly higher amount
Tier 3 - 501+ charged at highest amount
You were buying at tier 3 prices so yes you will get less units, how long have you had prepaid? Cause it only refreshes on the 1st of the next month, so if you're in tier 3 from the 1st of the month you'll be paying those prices right through the month. Which is what happened to you

Actually have had prepaid for years and quite familiar with tiers. As I stated I was working with the 3 tiers.
First Tier to 350 units Hence R683 which was correct Priced in first tier R1.6969
Then 150 units in the 350 to 500 units now 500 units so priced in 2nd tier R1.9465
The 9.25 units in over 500 units priced in 3rd tier R2.218

Are you adding VAT and the DSC to those figures? Or what ever the extra bit they added

Yes in my original post I add tax=vat and the DSM charge which is .06cents per unit over 500 units
R291.98+R20.5165+R0.555= R313.0465 +tax= R360. Amount is R313.05 + Vat R46.96 = R360.

What sms? I pay an amount and I get a slip with a code to load the units. How can you have debt with prepaid? Prepaid means you pay up front before using electricity.

The prepaid account is tied to your muncipal bill, water, taxes and bin. If that is in arrears they take from your prepaid.
Oh you buy in store as well, the slip they give you breaks it down.

Probably not for you, but for me with the new higher prices it would be about R50 - R300 for the year. But my point is that their calculating system is wrong and anyone buying more than once a month will be losing out.

My municipal account is up to date and paid on time. The breakdown on the slip is unintelligible and does not appertain to what I have received. Anyway the help I wanted was to be able to communicate with City Power where I'm sure I can get the matter cleared up.
