Eat what's on your plate or you get a crack. No McDonalds, no sh|t. That's how I was brought up. I think it's the right way, kids these days are spoilt little sh|ts, 'I don't drink water, I only drink soda, wa wa wa wa'. One slap on the back of the head is what you'll get from me. I don't believe in child psychologists and all this bullsh|t, it wasn't needed 20 years ago and it isn't needed now. I'm going to raise my children properly. To appreciate what they get. I would have loved to have a good meal every night when I was a kid.

Hear hear .... +1 and all that ;)

i really agree with that, and for sure the water part. My kids later will only get water and once every now and than a bit of juice. Apple just made me fat and i cant get the extra kilos of just because of the stupid apple juice. i drank liters of that everyday for years! I'm 20 now, but only started drinking water like 4 or so years ago. I never used to drink water, ah man, if i could redo my life, i'd stay away from all the junk food, drink lots of water and never give anything to my former neighbours. :D

I don't force my son to eat...he will eat when he is hungry.

The thing is, he gets miserably crabby when he is hungry, and then to try and force him will just frustrate me...so I leave him to tell me when he needs food...he tends to eat quiet a bit of snacky things during the day, so not really worried.

I'd definitely not force kids to eat their food. You are asking to wind up with an overweight kid, or a bulimic case. Keep the unhealthy snacks far away and teach them to enjoy healthy food.

I tend to want to avoid giving my kids the impression that they're in charge - its meal time so they eat. End of story. When a kid skips a meal - especially breakfast - it can negatively impact the rest of the day.

And if they dont want to eat then their mom cooks the next time! :D

lol at the threat!.:D

We tried the whole forcing thing, caused a lot of frustration (I was ready to kill him) He is not yet at an age where I can say to him "if you dont finish you food, you will not go outside / watch TV / play games / ride bike"

woaah....glad i'm not your kid.

not allowed to play, go outside, watch tv inside or even ride a bike? why is he not allowed to ride a bike, becasue he didn't eat all his food? big whoopie. what are you going to tell your gran when she's not really that hungry - that she's not allowed tv, to play games or go outside?

I'm don't know if forcing them to eat just for the sake of finishing their food is a good idea, but I definitely wouldn't let them skimp on the food, and chow down on snacks less than an hour later.

could lead to obesity, if they learn that eating everything that is given to you is a good thing. if they only eat the meat like some forumites said here, than some action must be taken though

I think That you should not force your kids to eat. And neither have sweets in the house.
Or snacks they'll eat what their bodies tell them they need...

 An adult is able to decide what and when to eat, a child isn't. If you don't force your child to eat properly, they'll end up addicted to junk food, sweets and coke and you're screwed forever.

what i'm saying is how can another person judge how much a kid must eat?

Can I decide how much you should eat, forcing you to eat everything or something? no. then why should a parent be able to set the rules on how much food his son/daughter should consume?

if the kid is full, he's bladdy full - he will decide how much his stomach can handle, not you. your idea of a portion might be too big for him/her too, their tummy's are small!

so the kid doesn't eat eggplant - big deal, not everyone eats everything!

let them eat healthy, but you can't blackmail your own kid if he ain't hungry, this isn't communist russia people

Yeah, with you on that, if they regularly eat just the meat, decrease the portion sizes so that they can finish all their food ;)

I cant wait to hear back when you've had the opportunity to put this philosophy into action. ;)
