Should I be concerned? Serial number registered to other Apple ID

Hi all,

So with all the iCloud problems I have been having - spent a bit of time having a look at my accounts etc.

Go into the self-service section today, and notice that my iPhone 4S is still registered as a device, but not the 5S.

Remove the 4S, try to add the 5S. It asks for the serial number - I copy and paste it in. Message flashes up saying the device is associated with a different Apple ID???

I dropped my phone middle of last year, and Core replaced it with a brand new one, under the AppleCare derivative that they have. So a new serial number obviously came back to me. I'm wondering if somewhere, it's not still registered with them?

That being said - is this a major problem? Something I should sort out? What impact, if any, could it have?

BTW: Here you can see your registered products: https://supportprofile.apple.com/

Thanks. That's where I started. I wanted to remove my 4S, and add the 5S – and then was told it is associated with another account.

I'm going to wait a bit – I'm hoping that something might be going wrong, with the outages being experienced in the App Store and iTunes during yesterday.

When I tried to do the same again today, the screen simply refreshes, and takes you back to where you put in the Serial Number, with no message.

This has me thinking there might have been backstage issues yesterday, that gave me the error. Will check tomorrow again, and then decide from there.

Are you sure? Sounds like it could be a refurb.

All iCare replacements by core are Apple Refurbished models. Serial number of refurbished units starts with DK.

Aw shucks. Ok. Probably a refurb then. It looked brand new - I never bothered to ask.

Where do I check that? If it was a refurb - would the Settings>>About screen serial number start with DK? Mine starts with F. It used to start with S.

Perhaps check here. But, I'd still contact Core and find out if they can guarantee that the device is indeed a new one.

Often refurbs have brand new externals and only the internals have been repaired/replaced. So you would never know the difference.

So – but nervous about calling Apple directly – will do so as a last resort. The joys of 'not adjusting my Apple Account to reflect my current country location'... :whistling:

Tried to phone Core. :D

I'll put that down again: :D

Why do they even have a phone-number? #3, Online or Sale Queries instantly jumps to engaged. #4, Technical Support – instantly jumps to engaged. So does #2, Status of sales and repairs. So you're left with #1, which is an automated voice about the office hours of the various iStores.

No to to worry – I have a direct number from the time iCare needed to sort out their cock-up with the Serial number of my initial phone.... Try that – automated voice asking me to send an email.

Does anyone here actually know anyone that works for iCore? How sure are we it isn't just all done automatically, with poorly-recorded voice-mail?

If it is registered under someone else's Apple ID they could for instance remotely locate and Wipe your phone etc. Find my iPhone :/

Not a peep out of Core since Friday?

Seriously – what the hell are you supposed to do, in trying to get hold of these people. I cannot actually get my head around how useless a situation this is?

Their call-centre doesn't work, leaving you no option but to email, which generates no response?

That's quite pathetic, to be honest. Is this the 0800 444 426 number?

No – that number worked, got through to an American-sounding lady, presumably in India/Khazakstan/Oklahoma.

But I ended it when I realised where I was at – this is a Core matter, since something happened when they did the repair for me, and needs to be sorted out through their iCare department.

I've been trying the 087 350 2946 number, off the Core and myistore website.

What IS pathetic, is when I first called the Apple Tollfree number (the 0800 one) – an American Apple Message asks you to select a number, based on what your problem is. When you select the number corresponding with an iPhone issue, the line jumps to a South African recording (hello Core) that simply says "if you have any technical queries about your iPhone, please contact your Cellular Service Provider (i.e. Vodacom/MTN/CellC etc.)... What the flip??
