Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa recently suggested adding a new charge on alcohol for the Road Accident Fund (RAF).

He justified this by saying that alcohol causes many accidents on South African roads - so it should help pay for the RAF, too.

Do you agree with this?

No it's just like renaming it.

FIX THE SHYTE UP and
Get the stolen money back
Close all contracts and set up new and honest ones with lawyers etc
Fire all staff and hire again but honest ones this time
etc etc

Scrap the RAF and make 3rd party insurance compulsory.
No but you see insurance doesn't cover the medical, which is what RAF does cover. I mean it's not like we don't have the government hospitals that are supposed to be able to handle that anyway.
RAF is also supposed to payout if the person cannot work for the rest of their lives. Supposed to

Isnt that what sin taxes are for, to go towards negating the harmful effects of alcohol, one of which is road accidents. Therefor a portion of that should go to RAF. No need for another tax which is just a money grab and not going to help anything

Scrap the tax on fuel..make the dronkies pay for everything. They'll pay anything anyway or they'll give up if it becomes too expensive. Win win

Or they will just start drinking methylated spirits or rubbing alcohol and then you have more blind beggars to dodge and more accidents.

The RAF is the ANC's little piggy bank. Staged accidents and fraud are rife.
