Mark should just buy Telkom (now that would be a real solution.) :D

Wishful thinking, I doubt that Shuttleworth is worth enough...and why would he invest in SA when he left SA because it is too difficult to deal with the Reserve Bank in his own words.

@alacos - i respect your ideas and if only i was a little more knowledgeable about things of this kind, i would also participate.

You don't need to be all that knowledgeable. If you're of at least average intelligence, I can probably teach you the very basics of company law (in so far as they relate to shareholders' rights) in a couple of weekend afternoons. It's not exactly rocket science.

I'm based in Craighall, Johannesburg, and would be perfectly happy to give free basic-company-law lessons (at my house) to any group of Joburg-based forum members who wanted to attend. If interested, send me an email to smda@mkohlhaas.org --- or alternatively phone me on 011 886 0191 or 076 818 2653.

I was under the impression that the user has to buy the share. My bad.
Not sure how you got that impression bcos the shares were paid for by The Shuttleworth Foundation as well as donated money left over from TAG's newspaper advert campaign, no mention anywhere of anyone having to buy a share from TAG.

Aside from questions of an operational nature, Telkodemonopolies needs to publicly answer questions about its Corporate Governance, or rather the lack thereof, and for this there is strength in numbers from the people asking the questions...

It's about time that telkom FEELS the complaints and crap service from its clients. "Kicking telkom where it hurts" this is where the fun starts.

I agree with the stop whinging or do something ads.
The first step is to educate the average non-tech, non-myadsl member about the whole telecoms issue and what could have been in SA if not for telkom and DoC. We need ads in the ever popular papers - not just the mouth of the affluent stuff (think the Sun, etc.)

What a waste of time and money, Telkom will always be there and do what they do, partially state owned...duh, government does just what it wants...duh, try telling a cow it's a kangaroo, it'll just moo.

Go Shuttleworth! :) I have doubts that this will accomplish anything fantastic... But even the slightest nudge in the right direction is phenomenal.
