So my boss started to mess with shares online last year and so far it was only virtual trading until his account(s) were opened.

anyway i started work the 16th of Jan and the phones were off, found out they been off for about 2 weeks already. with only incoming calls till early Feb we sat around not doing much and anyway the business he said we would be getting, never materialized. our accounts are about 3 months overdue and he cannot pay the company rent or the rent for his house but non the less he applies to have his Market Maker account(s) to be opened.

our phones are finally cut last week so no more incoming calls either. he pays half his phone bill which is about a month or two overdue, and they put us on for about a week then off again.

he sells a vehicle and pays over R10 000.00 to his Market Maker guys last week so he can no trade in real time.

today he cannot pay his staff their full wage as he has no money.

should we be worried?

yup sounds very bad, he lost focus. worst part is I think if the company gets liquidated you wont be getting anything.

I found myself in the same situation in 2007 with my previous boss. I stuck it out until the beginning of last year before I finally left the company. He still owes me around R32 000, but because nothing is on paper, I'm fscked.

Get out while you can Wayne!!

i heard from our bookkeeper guy that he will take the company off the PAYE records so my boss dont have to pay that money over to the government (he already does not pay the other deductions over).

Now you're implicated in being complicit to a crime.
I think you should be looking for a new job this weekend.

For heaven's sake, if you knew all this all along then why are you still there
I wish you luck in finding a new job, and the common sense to start looking for one.

I understand that small companies go through tough times, and maybe your boss has had tough times before, but it sounds like right now the situation that your boss is in is chronic.

Has your boss mentioned anything to you?

9 years is a long time to work with a company, and during that time you develop a strong relationship with your boss, staff and the company itself. It puts you in a comfortable position, so deciding on whether to leave the company is obviously going to be a difficult choice.

He's already in a deep in financial trouble, and he's clutching on straws to stay afloat. Not a good position to be in at all.
Talk to your boss. Find out if he has any strategy to overcome his current financial situation. It's vital to know what he has planned to get out of the mess (if anything at all), and it's also good to know what other staff think.

Just don't leave it too late. You don't want to be in the position where the company has gone bust, and you're sitting without a job.

he thinks he can make his money on the pc buying and selling shares but i think he stands a better chance at the casino.

i asked him in December when are we closing and he could not even tell me that and if there was any money for holiday pay and bonuses but he did say we would be getting so much work it would run into the millions, well we came back to nothing although he got a job this week worth R245 000.00 so what do we do?

I'd be making some heavy inroads into getting some interviews lined up.
Understandable that you've been with a company for so long, but from what you're saying. It may be going belly up.
