South Africa's digital driving licence secrecy

While the Department of Transport (DoT) has been highly evasive in answering questions about the rollout of a new physical smart driving licence card, it has gone all but silent on its previous plan to introduce an electronic driving licence (eDL).

The first indications that South Africa would launch an eDL came in the DoT's 2021/2022 annual performance plan.

"We used Gov funds to but $50m in Bitcoin to see how blockchain works."

"We don't think this is viable and the project is being abandoned"

No need to procure new drivers licence card printing machines, and the overseas trips and BEE corruption that goes with it. Go digital one time like a lot of countries and American states are doing now. 99% of people that have cars and/or drive cars have a phone.

They want Jojo. Their resistance is because of the Jojo they want everyone pay even if they don't have problems. They fear that they won't benefit from corruption anymore. But maybe Barbra will iron it out
