Sim only via contract

Going to switch to Cell C soon - just bought an S3 - and checking their site it seems much better to go for contracts instead of prepaid. R100 for 100 anytime minutes + 100mb data + 100 SMS seems ideal for me. What's even better is that from their site it looks like you can get a contract for just 1 month. So it really would be like prepaid except the money automatically comes off and you're getting more value.

My question then is, has anyone done this? Am I missing something? How easy is it to renew from month to month and does that mean unused minutes/data doesn't roll over? If it doesn't then I might go for 6 months and see how it goes. CellC's out of bundle rates are still 99c per second/mb right?

A month to month contract only mean that you can cancel by giving notice before month end. Normal roll over rules will be exactly the same whether you have select a month to month contract, 6 months, 12 months or 24 months.

If you use your own device go with 1 month contract. Just watch OOB. With S3 100MB can run out quickly in the matter of few minutes and you will be charged 99c/MB. Read other threads, even R7.50 50MB bundle protects you from OOB, after finishing this bundle you will be charged 15c/MB flat rate for the next 30 days.
EDIT: To be clear:
- 30 days timer runs from loading any bundle.
- Inclusive 100MB data is not considered a bundle.

Where do you see the R7.50 bundle? Can't find it on their site?

I am on wifi at home and work so don't think I'll be needing too much data but you can't go wrong with 7 bucks :D

Nevermind, found it. So if I get the R100 contract and the R7.50 data bundle, does the data come off the bundle first? Does that also roll over like the contract data?

Not sure to the first question.
Bundle valid for 30 days. Contract data do rollover.

Called local Cell C. The guy at first didn't know what the sim only rolling contract was...then remembered. Then when I talked about adding on a data bundle he again appeared confused, telling me you can't add bundles. Then when I said on the site there was a 1000mb for 15 bucks option, then he understood. When I asked if the data would come off the contract or the bundle first, he had no idea.

So I thought let me call Cell C helpline to get proper answers. The quick help number didn't work at all. The main number worked but there were only options for existing Cell C customers.

They don't make it easy do they.

I went in to the store today to port over to Cell C and get a R200 one month contract.

I had 3 month statement and proof of address but didn't have a payslip. I work freelance so don't have a monthly wage so need to work out what to provide them. The 3 month account statement shows payments for jobs, why isn't that enough? God they make it so difficult, it's only 200 bucks a month!

Another thing is he assured me that the OOB data rate was 15 cents on the contract. He showed me that when you click upsize R7 gets added which is the 15cents rate. Is that accurate? Have they maybe changed things so that one doesn't have to get a separate data bundle to stay on 15 cents?

Not true. OOB is 99c/MB. But if you buy R7/50MB bundle, OOB drops to 15c for the duration of 30 days from purchasing bundle. If you see upsize R7 option box, it is probably recurent bundle which adds 50MB bundle every months automatically.

How can they not know that at the cell c store? It really does my head in. They're supposed to be the experts on the subject. I guess I should just PM the Cell C rep on these forums to get some clarity.
