Hi there

I can get the following tv

https://www.makro.co.za/electronics/sinotec-55-140cm-3d-smart-full-hd-led-tv-276853EA

Now I don't know how the quality is on this tv. It's a smart tv running android 4.1 So that's a plus for streamng video over the LAN. So What do you guys think of it. Should I take the deal and so on or look at something a bit better like a Samsung or LG.

If you have any other suggestions please comment I have a bout R7K- R10K to spend on a TV and want to be able to watch tv and stream content (mp4,mkv,etc) over the network. I'm looking at anything from 42" to 55" but prefer actually about 47". Looking at Full HD tv no ULtra HD

Anyone worth looking at? I looked at it and although I know a thing or two about tv's i don't know if Sinotec is a good brand. Anyway I'm looking at LG TV's as alternative.

I was also looking at this deal BUT when I went to Makro and saw the Samsung 55" next to it ( and saw the difference in clarity and picture quality) I decided not to buy it.

LG is way better. Cannot go wrong there.

Buy a Samsung 48H6400 instead.

You can solve all your streaming with the Plex app that runs natively on the TV.

Best picture quality and size for the price.

Sinotec, much like HiSense is a compromise brand.

Have a look at the Samsung store in Fourways Crossing shopping center. They have very good specials on Samsung TV's from time to time. Last week they had a 50inch smart TV for just under R9,000 which I thought was not too shabby.

Yes I know/ It looks good but not sure what is better. I can get the Samsung UA48J6200 Also for a little bit less than the UA48H6400 but i don't know if it's really better or not
The difference would be the 6400 comes with 2 pairs of 3d glasses and comes with a much better (my opinion) remote. It's the air mouse type remote

The J6200 is not a 3D model...that's a plus in my book. You get the smart without the dumb (3D).

oh ok. I never thought to look at that. I don't mind 3d as the movies that they do in 3d is not that great anyway. Only a hand full of goodd 3d movies and for me not worth spending more just to have 3d.

So what do you guys say if it's about the same price for the lg 49LF630T and the Samsung 48" j6200 which one should I go for?

don't know...I can't find much info on either model with a couple minutes Googling. The older 6200 series didn't have any dimming (local or micro) so I would look for that on this J6200.

All things being equal, just get the big one ;p

To be honest, I would look for the dumbest big panel I can find with a decent refresh rate / dimming...the smart thing is overrated. I barely use it apart from the Supersport app which is pretty nice (I have a Samsung 55H6400). A Roku (lots of apps) or Chromecast (fewer apps but has Plex) beats the Samsung smart stuff (Plex on my Chromecast or Roku is much more responsive than the TV's Plex).

I have this kind of mini HDMI pc here. It runs full windows 8.1 and consumes 10 watts max. Almost like the intel compute stick but proline brand and it works really well as far as I've tested. I tested it on my current tv and I can get more use out of that pc than any smart tv.

Looking now I don't see a lot of non smart tv's that's decent.

Father in law also bought this tv - model number STL-55d2000 - it is not even 8 months old already he has a problem with it, screen blank but he has sound - depending on the model number is where you have to take it - this model must go back to jhb to get fixed. now he has to drive back to amamzimtoti to drop it off for it to make its way back to jhb....and he doesnt have the box as he took it out the box for it to fit in the car ...will let you know how this pans out...
