Let me tell you what happened, it had all that - and it was all turned on. Then after a firmware update it was defaulted into "demo" mode. I noticed this after a month or so when I did not see the pixelshift happening and it kept returning to the brightest level every time you turned it off. I googled how to get it out of demo mode but the damage had been done. If it can't handle a month of that then to hell with it. Plasma sure is nice and bright, but it does not last and in life I like things that last.

Actually bumped into the person that bought my 47" Logik LCD which I had before the Plasma - he is still happy with his purchase.

Anyway, to quote our plasma loving friend "this is a thread for buyers and owners of" a Sinotec TV. If you want to post about Opel or whatnot then do it elsewhere, here we post about all things Sinotec, here is a picture of my next Sinotec and unlike Samsung that comes with a 1 year warranty, or Logik with 3 years, it carries a 5 year warranty :

There's your problem... Not plasma. :erm:

Genuinely sorry that it happened to you.

Mine's going on 4 years old now. You don't need warranty longer than 2 years when you have quality components.

I think you'd be silly not considering 51" FHD plasma. Just remember how used to a plasma's picture you are. Your LCD will not nearly be as good.

In fact we should display that stunning pic in the above Sinotec pic on your new Sinotec and your old plasma under ideal viewing conditions to compare. Even though your plasma is HD Ready I think we know which will have the better PQ...

Good to know it will last that long, I'm so broke I'll still have this burnt in plasma in 5 years time from now... at least I can view all my favorite scenes without having to turn it on.

LOL.

I have my favourite XBMC menus on my LCD.

Have you tried running some of the third party videos on that plasma to remove the burn in? I mean outside of the built in scrolling bars.

Still love my plasma. Bought before previous World Cup. Only wish I could afford monochoice hd. But sd is best on the plasma. That's just my observation of panels over the years.

Plasma does have its advantages and I am not denying those, I enjoyed them over the past three years. However it is not without its flaws and the problem is with time those flaws catch up with it. The power usage is rather excessive and the burn in rather annoying. Perhaps after three more years I will feel the R7k I spent on it was a good deal for 6 years of viewing. We don't have monochoice or SABC and only use it as a display for XMBC, I'd say the TV is on for about 3 hours a day. Therefore I can't justify buying a new one.

I will however recommend LED to anyone looking for a new TV. It is superior to CFL LCD as well as plasma.

We had a LG 42" plasma screen in the foyer of our building which displayed safety videos, safety statistics and other general information. This information ran on a continious loop 24/7/365.25, and we are only replacing it now after 8 years. That is just under 3000 days or 70000 hours of continious use. I would presume that to be about 25 years of normal houshold usage.

This doesn't make sense. You loved the TV up until the firmware update induced torch mode which led to burn. And at 3 hours per day, it's probably an extra ±R15 per month. Power usage should be converted to Rands, not judged by watts which has no meaning to most people. Something I'd happily pay for superior PQ, sports, etc.

OK.

What for? To save R15 a month and not have to worry about burn? For a brightly lit room with daytime viewing? LCD isn't superior in any other way. It's inferior in every way for those who appreciate good PQ.

On the last point, because LED is getting cheaper and better, it is the most current display technology and therefore a lot of development goes into making it better and more affordable. Plasma is dying out and while I am glad I got to experience it before its gone, it needs to be gone.

I strongly disagree, and find the above nothing but a thumb suck.

Cheaper - not really? Perhaps over 50" we've seen price decreases, and with cheapie brands in general? Branded sets seldom show more value than they did years ago at the 32 - 47" range. It's still 32" = R5k, 40" = R6k, etc.

Better - I've noticed nothing of the sort, entry and mid range LCDs are virtually still the same as they were at least two generations back. This after having analysed Samsung EH/ES, F and H. The common denominators here are the LCD matrix and backlight. There's still no/very little self-illumination, which is why plasma is best.

Most current display so therefore... - nonsense. Strawman.

As am average Joe in the street for R7k you get a 51" PDP from Samsung or a 50" LED from Sinotec. As someone that used the prior for three years now I can honestly tell you to rather get the later. If I look at the quality of their cheap entry level products you can't go wrong with their larger offerings.

Regarding plasma and it's swansong, they are even selling inferior ED plasmas now just to get rid of it.

Glad to hear it :)

I bought a 42" LG LCD about 4.5 years ago and have been worried as the warranty is 5 years but you give me hope :)

Have to add to this thread, bough a cheap 19" Sinotec LED TV this weekend from Game for R1400. It has two USB ports, supports FAT16/32 and NTFS. It played all file formats, even Real Media clips! Very impressed with it and I am planning to replace my horrible 51" Samsung Plasma with a big Sinotec LED in the near future. Speaking of which, Game has nearly halved the price on those rubbish 51" Samsung Plasma sets now, down from R7k to I think R4k.

Why is it rubbish? Tis exactly the model I wanted to buy....link to thread where you biatched about it?

Perhaps I should've read the whole thread first before asking. Got me answers thanks. I was looking at the same one you have, not anymore though...

I'm not a fan either, but just remember that there's nothing wrong with the resolution if you sit far back. If you need a big TV in a big room, it's excellent value.

You are referring to 1368x768, right? Not ED which is 852x480... ?

I have a 5 year old 42" Samsung plasma that still works like the day I bought it, that is why I was brand loyal. It will now be going to the bedroom and I need to get new one for entertainment area.

Indeed, mine's 4 years old. 42" 1024x768. Lovely TV for SD, HD and sport.
