Simply based on personal experience I would agree about the 1368x768 resolution, I was a bit sceptical before I bought it that the pixels would be noticeable but at a 2+ metre distance it looks good and you can't really see the pixels.

ED, as in 852x480 is completely and utterly useless, I would not even use it for 10" displays. It is crap.

It's crap from ±2m, yes.

I don't think they will take plasma beyond FHD. They will use some other burn-in prone technology like OLED

If so, I think architects will follow suit in not designing TV rooms with 1m viewing distance. So FHD is and will be good enough for most for a long time to come.

PP - perhaps that's why the manufacturers are dropping the technology?

In all honesty a plasma and LED are very similar quality wise and up to the individual - but perhaps the manufacturers are looking forward and realise plasma won't cut it for future as it cant be scaled?

LG will probably leave the plasma scene in under 18 months leaving Samsung who - due the technology being current - cut down on models and run it as their budget flat screen, similar to cars it'll be the Vivo of the flat screen world?

Makes sense to me

They are not similar quality wise.

Both Samsung and LG will continue producing plasma into the future.

We honestly don't discuss budget/low resolution plasmas on this forum. For those who sit far and want a big TV with excellent PQ, great, highly recommended.

"Wrong, wrong, wrong" sums up your post, I'm afraid.

Ok.

Plasma doesn't doesn't scale at all ; it had a good run but as it cannot go the way the world is going. It'll be stuck in 2014 while we go ahead into the future with UHD, 4k, curved screens. It makes sense that it's dying.

It doesn't make money for the manufacturers and therefore it becomes better for manufactures to focus elsewhere. Does that make more sense?

Wrong, wrong wrong sums up plasma to be honest. Sinotec LED is superior.

I don't care what people think is a gimmick or not - it's here and more of them are coming out!
Same for UHD - you can buy them and they're already within the grasp of people in terms of affordability.

Fact is from Samsung or LG side, if they're not making money - they're canning the technology. It's business, sadly

I agree with that article on curved gimmick, but what I do not agree with is that anything below 720p is acceptable in this day and age. Not even on your phone should you settle for less than 720p. When you reach 50" you can only justify 720p in environments where you are at least 2 metres away from the display.

The fact that they are now selling ED displays means they are clearing out all stock on plasma - probably because it is dead.

Let me take this opportunity to remind you that we are consumers, who care about fellow consumers.

I couldn't care less about what manufacturers dictate. Thank goodness they're generous enough to leave us with plasma for a long time to come.

Your phone is operated from a few inches away. Did you not follow the other main focus of the video about resolution and distance?

Look, not even Sinotec would waste effort into packing a neutered 480p panel into any display. How can you justify a 51" Plasma with a horrible resolution that is pretty much SD?

Do you not understand the business side?
It's got to do with money?

I make and sell Product A and Product B. Product A - unfortunately - cannot scale well due to 90's technology used and it has reached it's peak. Product B, on the other hand, can be scaled which means it is a 'valid' product for many years to come. Product A sales slow as we move onwards.

Do we keep producing Product A or Product B?

I'm not arguing with you (again) over picture quality - but can you not not see the business side? There may a small group of fans dotted in the world, but that doesn't mean it is viable to produce to old technology.

Look at the move from vinyl to CD ... or film camera to digital ... or DVD to Blu Ray. It's inevitable how things are going to pan out

Viewing distance, individual needs, eyesight, cognitive ability.
