Right, then I put it to you that the size of the display in your peripheral vision where you do not see pixelation is the same for a 51" ED Plasma than it is for a 19" HDR LED.
So in effect you can sit 30cm from a 19" 720p LED display and the viewing experience will be as good as with a 51" 480p at 5 meters, the closest you can be without noticing those massive blocks called pixels.

Do you not understand the business side?
It's got to do with money?

I make and sell Product A and Product B. Product A - unfortunately - cannot scale well due to 90's technology used and it has reached it's peak. Product B, on the other hand, can be scaled which means it is a 'valid' product for many years to come. Product A sales slow as we move onwards.

Do we keep producing Product A or Product B?

I'm not arguing with you (again) over picture quality - but can you not not see the business side? There may a small group of fans dotted in the world, but that doesn't mean it is viable to produce to old technology.

Look at the move from vinyl to CD ... or film camera to digital ... or DVD to Blu Ray. It's inevitable how things are going to pan out

I don't care about the business side.

Your analogies are also wrong. Also, you forget that the first LCD and plasma displays came out in 1964, funnily enough.

Nor are TVs comparable to storage media. I could easily tell you and argue to your wit's end that as an audiophile, wax sounds better than digital media.

So, in short, the 19" Sinotec LED TV yet again asserts is superiority.

And there we've justified 51" ED.

Yes, you might as well get a 19" Sinotec LED instead which costs a fraction of the price and provides the same viewing experience, except for the 3W speakers.
This thread served for knowledge longer than expected, I'll give it that. That it degenerated to humour was foreseen.
I'm not joking about the 19" Sinotec LED being superior to a 51" Samsung ED Plasma....

I'm sure there are smartphones or tablets for cheaper?

Speaking of which, Game has nearly halved the price on those rubbish 51" Samsung Plasma sets now, down from R7k to I think R4k.

I'd like some more info on this please :)

What model is this you speaking of?
I'd like to buy another set because my Sinotec keeps breaking when we get it repared, and I'd rather just buy another new samsung plasma then repair the sinotec over and over...
(I've kinda given up and the Sinotec is just standing there in another room on the floor - need a TV for our bedroom)

Sounds like you already have a Samsung but with a Sinotec badge.

I have both a Samsung Plasma and a Sinotec LCD.

I was happy with the Sinotec, it's great, but I prefer the Samsung, and would rather get another Samsung for R4000 then fix the sinotec again for ~R1000.
I can't keep fixing this thing over and over, right now it's just collecting dust and I'd love to take a hammer to it ala Office Space style.

Well look at it this way, at least the Sinotec does not have any burnt in images. Sure you might burn it as whole, which is fine, but the screen is now showing any burn in which your samsung plasma will show after a while.

Ok but can you please tell me where I can find the 51" Samsung Plasma for R4K and what model? I'm not really here to debate you whether a Sinotec LCD is better than a Samsung Plasma, I own both and know the difference.

Edit: My Sammy has been properly played-in without any black bars or static images for the first 100 hours, So I don't suffer from burn-in at all.

When I got my LCD around 5 years ago this plasma vs argument was in full swing. My LCD is still running beautifully and I have never noticed any of the issues mentioned. Anyway just an observation...

3 years ago when I got my plasma it was stunning, now it has burned in images. I'm glad plasma is dead.

Plasma has always and will always be better than LCD/LED backlit LCD. It is an incontestable fact that any AV enthusiast knows.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but either 1) You don't care enough to let the difference effect you, or 2) You've never owned plasma or directly compared, or 3) You don't understand enough.

True - until it starts to show burn it, then it goes from hero to zero in no time flat.

I did all the comparisons etc and also read all the millions of hoops people have to go through to maintain and tune plasma.

I set my tv up around 5 years ago once. Never did it again, I don't even know where it's remote is any more. It still looks as good as it did 5 years ago :)

As I said, just an observation.

Next I'll get a LED obviously and I will do all the same research I did back in the LCD vs Plasma era before buying it but who knows when that will be? Tomorrow or 10 years from now? Let's see how long the LCD lasts.

Let me just add one thing, I do not watch sport.
