Eskom must spy on staff and their families, says watchdog

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) wants Eskom to monitor the bank accounts, email inboxes, and cellphones of its employees, their spouses, and their children, City Press reports.

This was one of the outcomes of SIU's submission to Parliament's standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) last week. SIU head Advocate Andy Mothibi said vetting Eskom employees isn't enough.

Aag please.
Another idea that makes sense on the surface but with corruption the way it is already you'd end up with a mailbox full of dickpics and nothing else to show.

What's next? You gonna apple airtag all empty streetwise 2 boxes floating around eskom?

I'd take a streetwise 2 if it came with an Airtag. Anyone suggested this to KFC yet?

Just do life style audits on all Eskom employees. Don't need to do everybody, just a few spot checks and make examples of the obvious ones.

The making of examples, that's clearly the problem. Eskom can do everything in its power to identify corruption and malfeasance, but if suitable punishment is not meted out, to all, even those at ministerial level, then all is moot.
Right now an employee that is cornered simply resigns.

Shouldn't the same apply to ministers and all govt employees that can vet tenders ?
Why not conduct a financial audit of the above govt officials before they were appointed and what they are currently worth ... with explanations required for massive growth ?

All you need to do is convict a minister / senior gov official (as per Singapore) and the rest of the scum will quickly fall into place. That will be a more time and cost efficient manner of dealing with this scourge. But that's never been the anc way of doing things. Especially when it's encouraged to allow the piggies at the trough to eat!

The anc is rotten to the core, politicians and government caders collectively with islands of exceptions, and ANY form of governance will be undermined through corruption, collusion, tenderpreneurship and such ills.

Schooling in SA is criminally off-key leaving the population educationally in debt without the tools to excel and see the criminality of the anc as immoral and unable to make our country a great country believing that the anc "deserves" the feeding frenzy

Where and when will we find a government, when in power, that will truly care for the population of SA believing in good governance - right now most of my fellow SA citizens leaves me aghast that they are comfortable wallowing in our current pigsty of a mess - Citizens, grow some balls and get off your collective butts and clean up our mess, you can do better and I believe in you; truly don't expect the anc to do it for Us

How on earth is this not in place already?
It's probably not in place at many other places, not just government but even private companies, the idea being that if the person declaring the interest is not directly involved in the awarding of business to that particular company, so it's not really an Eskom thing.

So the SIU is asking Eskom to do their work for them. Eskom will not get access so this will stand still as usual.
