It's totally outrageous. How can a company like Hellkom be PROUD of what they're doing?

BEE will always fail because only a select few blacks will ever succeed.

A company exists to make money, else it would be a charity or be closing down.
Profit is therefore a result of their continued existence.

BUT robbing people blindly because:
1.your product or service is a necessity,
2.nobody else is legally entitled to offer your product or service,
3.the regulating body is incompetent at regulating the environment your company operates in,
constitutes criminal behaviour in my opinion.

If Sizwe knew what he was doing, i would have said "pay him what he was worth" but we all know it is not the case. He is one of the PDI or whatever they call them today, that is getting a huge salary, just because he is black!. (sorry but it is the case, im not being racist)

Everybody in this country is being pushed towards BEE, but these bastards got it all wrong, BEE is suppose to give the PDI a better advantage than what they had in the past, and it is not happening like this. Is is all a "Buddy - Buddy" scheme. it is people like this that is raping this country of its values. Soon we will be a 5th generation country begging for dialup access.

FIRE this bastard! if this continues South africa will join Zimbabwe. It is guys like this that knows nothing about technology and dont care about it. All they want is to feed their damm faces.

As the monopoly holder ,Sizwe is responsible for growing this country (PSTN technology wise) and this bastard is doing nothing about it, all he can do is collect his money.... FAT CAT!!!. May your fingers change into fishhooks, and may your ass begin to itch!.

I hold you responsible for Internet technology in this country (just because you do not want to give the competition the oppotunity to close you down).. NOW get off your arse and do something about it. go and visit another country (not zimbabwe) and have a look how they give internet to their customers. Even nigeria has better rates that us.

Change your business plan to accomodate your customers, provide service. and provide a better future for this country. Until you do something about this.. you are a useless person. No wonder we dont see new investments in this country!.

I am not jealous because i dont get a salary like this, i am disgusted that you get paid this salary and you are not worth it.

DAMMIT! [V][V][V][V][V]

South africa is screwed.

The editor of the Economist in London has already said international big business has noted that in SA you need to give the ruling party a slice of the pie. One presumes this is via Tokyo Sexwale or similar. BEE is good, but it's gone the shape of the pear. It needs an overhaul.

About 6 months ago, AT&T decided to move out of this country. Why ??, Telkom screwed them by deny'ing more bandwitdh. They lost about 70% of their customers. AT&T had all the switching equipemnt ready to roll out. But no... telkom knew that AT&T is competition to them and that they will case telkom to fall.
AT&T is 100 times bigger that telkom, they also stated that they will never return. Bacause they will never be granted a fair chance.

I expect this Sizwe caracter to be more of a public figure, be more visible in the sense of explaining what TELSKUM is doing to imporve services in this country. I never heard him speak at any of the I.T conferences regarding new technologies. (Hope is ass grows into his chair)

i am not all saying that AT&T must be the second operator, i am suggesting that we must get a company that know what they are doing, a multinational that is 100 times bigger that TELSKUM. ie British Telecoms, AT&T, Cable and wirless......... Get competion in this country and TELSKUM will fall away.

But then again, we have a corrupt coverment that will not allow something like this to happen.
DAMM im cross!!!

i think we do need another operator except that the government don't want jeopidise the SNO.

The SNO is competition when it comes out but how long it takes to get out is anyone's guess.

At least the govenment can see that COMPETITION IS NEEDED

it is just a pitty that our goverment is to corrupt to allow this to happen.

the current minister does not care about the telecoms industry in this country, she only cares about her pay cheque.

This fish is rottting from the top down.

I suggest that we must get a new minister, or at least soem person that care abou technology in this country.

DAMM BASTARDS!!!! May their gravytrain de-rail..

I never knew AT & T was here. Or have since left. How did they lose 70% of their customers? How did they get customers when Telkom is still protected? I've never seen anything to do with them being in SA.

You have to ask why a big Euro/N American corp does not seem interested in being the SNO. It has to be down to too much baggage from the licence (ie being forced to connect settlements, gov. stake holding etc.) coupled with the way government has failed to totally deregulate telcoms.

Also, I think a lot of money is going to need to be spent on infrastructure and given the potential customer base here the returns probably aren't particularly inspiring.

AT&T offered the state several billion dollars for Telkom in the early Nineties if I'm not mistaken. The state of course turned them down as they thought greener pastures were ahead. What a bunch of fools they were for letting the offer go.
I reckon they put SA back the last 10 years plus the next ten years to come. In total SA has been put back 20 years and things might still change in the market. So anything could be your geuss.

I don't blame AT&T for making a duck. If I was them, I would have left aswell. You cant get water out of a stone. A simple search in google for "at&t icasa" will reveal all. This is one link I found.
http://www.icasa.org.za/Repository/...ons/Goverment Gazzettes/A&T-Telkom Ruling.pdf
I reckon, although AT&T won the case, they knew whichever way they turned Telkom would be trying to block them. Telkom has that ruling about the Vans operators against them remember, but of course their legal team are appealing the decision. They know they will lose in the end, but in the mean time carry on sucking the public dry. It's a sorry tale of corporate bungling that streteches into the hallways of our government. The very people the 10 odd million people voted for. So what can anyone do. They have their mandate to do what they want.
