Hi all

My wife is German and from Munich originally. We are wanting to visit her family and for the experience, spend 4/5 days at a family ski resort in the Bavarian Alps. I have two kids, hence the need for a family resort.

Has anyone any recommendations for a good resort? I realise not many people might have been, but worth a shot.

I have been to Zugspitze and Garmisch before, but in summer. I have never had the opportunity to ski before and also want the kids to experience it.

My wife has not been skiing for close to 20 years now, so she is no help :)

I don't know the German ski resorts well, but over the border in Austria you can't go wrong with St Johann im Tirol, Ischgl or Galtur. I spent 2 weeks in Ischgl last Christmas, and it is a large ski resort catering for the whole family. You can enrol your kids in a kiddie ski school and leave them supervised while you tackle the blue/red slopes.

Saalbach in Austria was amazing. Very family orientated.

Just watch that whole birth certificate thing ...

Yes, was wide awake when I saw this. We do have all the necessary documents already (right type of birth certificate etc) and will be travelling together. My kids actually have dual (German+SA) passports, which makes the new laws interesting as well.

Last two times I went skiing were both at Club Med resorts. France ( Les Deux Alps) and Switzerland (St Moritz), not sure if they have resorts in Germany though.

Club Med is very family orientated. Kids of all ages are accomodated. It's inclusive packages (drinks & 3 meals a day), which means no nasty suprises if the Rand goes down the toilet.

Equipment & lessons (which I recommend) are also included.

Anyway as I said not sure if they have resorts in Germany though.
