Hello everyone. I having quite a bit of a problem. My ADSL is set at 10mbps yet I am getting sub 2mbps speeds for the past 2-3 weeks continuously. I have logged faults with telkom and I have requested call outs at least 5 times to no success. I called the call center again and after resetting my port 3 times, the speed would not kick up. Worst of all, my phone is dead. To check if there was a config prob I logged into the router only to find:

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 78 61
Attenuation (dB): 460 311
Output Power (dBm): 185 122
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1888 1031
Rate (Kbps): 1403 1023
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.24 0.24

HEC Errors: 0 0
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 1 0

1888 kbps when im supposed to be getting 10 240 Kbps .Browsing is not enjoyable and I have 76kB/s downloads for drivers and patches. I live in Bryanston. Phone number 011 463 60xx. Please help!

Telkom is a slime pit of efficiency.

The best option I found in 6 years of bimonthly issues is to hire a line through another company (eg. iSAT) when I checked paying iSAT for ADSL line was actually cheaper than telkom somehow. Even though its still a telkom line and telkom still does all the maintenance, the administration of your line is done by a company that is much better.

Then you dont have to spend thousands of pointless hours arguing with Telkom because its iSAT's job to do that on your behalf. iSAT has limited access to the Telkom systems so that when the technician lies and reports that he was unable to work on your issue because the gate was closed; so that he can go drinking rather than work, you find out about it and you can lay complaints and it gets sorted out very quickly after that.

Believe it or not, ADSL will still function, at a diminished speed, with only 1 of the twisted pair wires connected. The dial tone & voice function will fail. A Telkom Techie must check the line to determine the status of each wire in the twisted pair. Hope this helps.

Not surprised that Mybb's telkom rep wasn't mentioned, he is utterly useless at times, reminds me of a whore on periods.
