Slow page loading, but good download speed - why?

Hey all,

When I request a webpage, any webpage, I notice that nothing happens for between 30-40 seconds, and then suddenly the page starts downloading at good speeds (normally 38-40Kbps).

For example when I opened the Myadsl homepage it took 42 seconds before anything happened.

I use Opera which has timers and speeds on the bottom bar and they all sit on zero for this period. My question is why does nothing happen for the first half minute.

It is probably a DNS issue.

I'm also experiencing the same browsing problem today on IS uncapped ADSL.

Try changing the DNS server settings for your connection.

Hey you are a clever boyjie! Problem solved. I always had autodetect DNS on, now I changed it to "use the following, ........................." and pages load instantly.

Thanks bud.

No I used the DNS info provided by my isp. And the problem is not completely solved. It came back last night. All very frustrating to have to wait 40 seconds for a page to do anything.

Anyone else have a possible cause and solution.

Been having the same problem on Vodacom/Virgin Mobile as well. Not sure if DNS settings'll help there though.

Ok guys, I may another solution. I only use Opera. I just downloaded Firefox and the pages load instantly with Firefox. Is this not perhaps a browser problem?

What browser are you using, and please dont say IE?

EDIT: Damn Firefox is fast!!!!!!! I thought my line was slow, but it was Opera. What a difference!
