Double Cable Break Issue In Western Cape [Unresolved]

The cable break issue was used last week when performance dropped, performance is still the same, the thread was closed, but we Cell C customers still have no ping, speed and proper internet....

Cell c there is another underlying issue in the Cape, I am 500m (-51 - -55dbm) from tower.... and this is my speed...

Please fix it....

The slow uploads started before the cable break and during the cable break both uploads and downloads suffered, so clearly what you are seeing is the slow upload problem.

Yesterday was very bad in claremont. Pings over 500ms and download speeds hardly ever reach more than 1.5MB/s and dont even start with upload speeds!!

And still rocking in Edgemead...

What exactly do you want to do with 10mb/s on a 5GB cap? I'm finding 3.6 more than adequate for mail, youtube, downloads etc. Remember that the 21mb/s on the tower is a shared connection, so it will make sense that the more people are on a tower the more the 21 will get sliced up.

I still get slow uploads (10's of kBytes), but watching the data counter during the speed test I've seen it spike to 1.5 mbit/sec but only very briefly.

I lost my cool a bit last week about this continuing issue. So I PM'd the Cell C Representative, complained to Trevor, complained on the Cell C Facebook wall, and sent emails to onlinesupport@cellc.co.za and escalations@cellc.co.za asking for an update on my reference number.

I got several responses via email, sms and phone calls from Cell C. And now at least I have an acknowledgement that there is a problem with the tower I connect to. They think it is some kind of interference at the tower and an engineer will investigate further asap. I have been promised an update later this week. Let's see what happens.

hi Guys,

I too went through huge problems, you may or may not have seen some of my posts on this site. within 2 days i had a Cell C engineer at my door, guy by the name of Warren.

Super cool guy, came in did some signal testing, figured out it was an issue with the equipment on the absa building in CT cbd, since i was not line of site of the one on gardens center.
Two days later i was off to Durban, had a call from Warren to say they had found an IP routing issue in CT, also an issue with tower prioritisation for people connecting to the network(authentication hanging). He assured me that they had found the problem, and it would be sorted within days, so i tested on the speedtest site to compare speeds for when i got back to CT the following week, and my connection in CT was as good as, if not better. I have seen alot of guys praise the connectivity in Dbn, but tell you what come try ours here in CT.

I asked Warren what happened to Ron, apparently he is still at Cell C, but just not involved in the correspondance on these forums anymore.

All i can say is nag, nag, nag the guys, they do get around to sorting things out.

Good luck, and thanks to Warren and Cell C for sorting out my weeks of frustration.

I am very positive about Cell C but it hard to stay that way, to go from a brilliant connection

To this in one month (or since the "cable break" occurred)

It just took me 20 minutes to upload a 4.5 MByte attachment on gmail. And I am not on EDGE!

Here's why :(
