Small fibre players took Telkom by surprise

I don't think Telkom being surprised surprises any of us.

Well the giant is now awake and it's great.

I hear a lot of "we want to" and very little "we have completed".
Telkom, it's up to you whether you adapt or die but you better pick which one it's going to be because the time to pull a bunny out of your hat is running out fast.

“We’ve got a very very deliberate plan to be at 70 000 by the end of this fiscal year, to be at 400 000 in the next 12 months following that and then to be at one million.

Highly doubt it.

I don't ...

Check the article he's not saying they're going to connect those houses just sling fibre past them :D

“As Openserve, I haven’t just passed 200 homes or 2 000 homes, we have passed in excess of 37 000 homes with fibre,” Samuels told Fin24.

Independent fibre broadband companies’ approach of targeting homeowners associations to install their networks took Telkom by surprise, says an official.

Again, they didn't target homeowners associations... homeowners association(i.e. residents) targeted them due to your **** service and unwillingness to install, upgrade or maintain your network. Its 2015 and you are still unable to provide a decent speed to anyone a few meters away from an exchange. You can't install lines to residents, so they got a line from someone else... what did you expect? You want people to sit around and wait for you to catch up to 1995? Piss off

Should it really be a surprise that if you don't service a market someone else will? Telkom is really out of touch with reality.

I want to do it at such a competitive price

The prices they recently offered us at one of the offices weren't so competitive. Don't know if anything has/ will change

Lady from Telkom tried to sell me on VDSL at work. Mentioned packages like 20GB, 40GB, etc. So I asked her if she can do a quote for 500-800GB, (our normal monthly usage), up to 1TB (exceptional cases). For some reason she started to change the subject.

Unless Telkom gets rid of their IPC pricing on fibre it won't matter how many homes they pass, as other networks will still be cheaper.
