You would not make nonsense statements like this if you were a licenced, and carrying, firearm owner. And you're going to ask them to hold on while you get your weapon after they've entered.

What do you want me to do? Bake him some koeksisters? Install a camera system for him for mahala?I honestly don't get how you flippantly speak about your neighbour who has people invading his property.
Without the walls, he's literally just over there, getting robbed! You shrug your shoulders.
How is that statement nonsense? You would not make nonsense statements like this if you were a licenced, and carrying, firearm owner.
Hmmm.. we have a collection of great footage of cars being stolen or broken into from the company car park over the years.
The point being, cameras by themselves are useless unless there is some kind of supervision and response, otherwise, all you have is a nice video of what happened.
Most modern cameras work on AI, not just motion detection. Things have improved dramatically in that department. We had cameras installed that we manage ourselves. They go off whenever the wind blows too hard, at night it picks up lights from passing cars etc. Unless the camera is in a place where there is literally no movement from any lights or shadows or leaves or birds you will get constant false alarms. Despite that, the cameras still give us peace of mind, we can check if the inside alarm goes off or when we are away from home, or if we wake up from a noise. We are actually going to get more cameras as we want to see over the perimeter wall into the street as well as some inside cameras.
I have Reolink AI cams for a few years now, key word being "AI"...I had lots of false positives before AI with the older Reolinks to the point that push notifications became useless as it sent notifications for things like trees moving in the wind or cloud shadow movement, those dumb cams were just that, dof.
Now however they've gotten really good to the point where I only get one or maximum 2 false alerts per month so my push notifications are extremely useful, actually helped me identify an intruder around 2 years ago before he got into the house or triggered the alarm.
Also the Reolink DUO 2 is a game changer, full colour night vision and AI, with wall to wall 180 degree coverage means it's close to impossible for criminals to sneak up to them or past them, the coverage is fantastic. One camera does the job of 2 but with less cabling and a seamless view.
A nice friendly Roti, is enough, to make most just keep on walking by.
Problem with cameras, to make them useful, they need to be continually monitored.
What I do appreciate about them, is if I hear something, I can check the cams to see, what I will be walking into, before I open the door.
If I don't like what I see, I phone the Security company and the police, and tell, them they must make snappy, or they will need to use a body bag, if they are tardy.
I had some issues at my home, but things got better after I set up a couple of fake cameras.
I'm looking at one of these for our front yard. That's quite the pano.Replaced 2 cameras with the Duo 2. Fantastic camera. Set it to switch on the camera lights when it detects someone, so they know they are being watched.

Camera's are not a silver bullet. In some ways they are very effective, in others less so.
Camera's to me are best at discouraging people from the area, gardeners, maid's etc from stealing. If there is a chance they would be recognized its an issue for them. On the other hand I have seen many times over the years when a clear picture of robbers was posted with zero results. If it is not someone you know what are you going to do with that picture??? Unlike all the US TV shows to my knowledge SA does not have the ability to search a face against any kind of local crime DB.
Criminals from outside the area would only worry about a camera if they feared it was being monitored.
My fear with those doorbell cameras is having it stolen. Couple of grand electronics on display for any crook to break off and run away with easypeasy. Urgh.Nice, they've got a pretty good home assistant integration:
I'll probably install their doorbell one, been wanting to swap that to a video camera one as don't have someone there during the week.Reolink IP NVR/camera
