Smartphone radiation can harm the memory of your kids – Study

A new study by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) found that electromagnetic radiation from mobile phones can have a negative effect on memory in adolescents.

The investigation involved around 700 adolescents in Switzerland and showed that electromagnetic fields may negatively influence the memory performance of specific brain regions.

I don't think it's anything to do with radiation. It's everything to do with abdication of your brain's functions to a piece of silicon.

Stupid question, but how did they account for the possible behavioural impact on memory the use of smartphones may cause.

Where do you find a non-smartphone using control group?

I sure hope they don't remember the way back home when I "forget" them at the beach.

Kids in general are clueless about most things. "May" impact memory isn't exactly specific either. What was the control group? The expiremental group sample is too small as well. Perhaps the reason why their memory is so ****e is because of too much electronic use and the expectation of instant gratification.

How many adolescents actually spend much time talking on their phones these days anyway? Mine use theirs for everything but talking - if they spend 20 minutes a month talking, that would be a lot.

True. Most kids use social media instead of actually speaking over the phone. It's led to social awkwardness - I see it daily.

Its a lie its not the radiation its the growth hormones in the food we consuming

At a certain age many Teens like to game the system (it's normal and healthy in my view). This sort of study is a marvellous opportunity to get the grunties (grownups) all concerned. They must've guessed the purpose of the study and adjusted their memories accordingly. Wotta lotta fun to see dem grownups wring their hands with worry.

didnt they say the same about tv

meanwhile some parents dump their kids in front of the tv(now smartphones/tablets) and give them little to no attention. short bursts of required attention from devices would certainly cause shorter attention spans. i can imagine something similar with memory and devices that remember for you etc.

Tried getting the actual study but it is paywalled. I would like to understand what the researchers determined the mechanism of damage to be - was it the heating effect on the brain, since this is non-ionising radiation?
