I am having this problem on my iPhone 3Gs - just sits on Edge constantly, no matter where I am. Does anyone have a non-hackandslash fix for this? I went to the local Cell C store and the woman behind the counter looked at me like I was nuts then told me that I can return the Speedstick.

That doesn't exactly help me, now does it? *sigh*
iPhone 3GS can't do UMTS @ 900MHz, so you'll only get EDGE on Cell-C's network.

Because my dongle died, I tried using the Cell C Data sim in my Samsung Galaxy S. However, it's permanently stuck on EDGE. Can't get it to see 3G or HSDPA at all. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I'm starting to think that these Sim cards are crap.

Where are you located?
Bought a 2gb data SIM for my phone and top it up with credit when needed....and so far I love it, works great on HSDPA

Mmm - perhaps drop ronbo4gs a PM and tell him about which area you are in.
Any other device you could check on?
I only use my sim in my SGS and HSDPA+ is a wonderful blerry thing!

I'm in Northgate. Even my dongle though, never gave speeds of more than 2mb/s, and I had constant disconnect issues. Now with my galaxy, it's stuck on EDGE. I think I might have a bum sim card...

Maybe you could go to a cell c store and test it out?

Does anyone else use the Galaxy S with the Cell C sim? I can't get it to work at all. I have tried using Samsung Kies, as well as the Tethering option by selecting 'PC Internet' when connecting the phone to the PC. I have even tried using a Bluetooth dongle. Nothing works. I can browse internet fine on my phone while the sim is inserted, and pick up HSDPA as well. But as soon as I try to use the phone as a modem for my PC, I can't connect at all.

When the connection starts dialing through Bluetooth, the '3G' icon on the phone vanishes completely, and nothing works.

I have tried my MTN sim in the phone, and I have no problems at all tethering to my computer. What the hell is the issue with these stupid Cell C simcards?

Can't really say that I've had any issues.
Try using Easy Tether app in the market.

Still nothing. I couldn't even download the app. As soon as i tried the download, boom, internet goes away. So basically, all I can do is surf from my phone. Nothing else.

I found that the clock on my N900 is always 5 minutes ahead when 'update automatically' was enabled.
It's unclear whether the problem lies with Cell-C or the N900, see here, but disabling 'update automatically' and installing the 'OpenNTPD' package solved the problem for me.

Solved?

I have the modem with the 24 GB bundle, the first 24 hours following purchasing R50.00 air time I could send SMS's, there after I could only receive SMS's with a R49.00 balance still available. Cell C's staff are working on the problem, however after 2 weeks this has not been resolved. We have tried re=installing the modem software, putting the sim card into a cell phone and unlocking the sim card. If anyone has a solution please advise.

Has this issue been resolved? How?

I'm using the 60Gb package with my SGS.

I'm unable to send sms'es like above. The only error messgae I get is "Message not sent". I have airtime, I can make calls and I've set the message center to +27341000000. I cant find any other settings to set.

My internet is working well when I get reception. No issues with tethering or creating hotspots.

I did try making a VoIP call through my brother's VoIP server (http://www.uls.co.za/) but it seemed to be blocked. When I connected to the internet through the Wi-Fi, the call went through. Does cellC block VoIP traffic?

Thanks, it works now. I thought it was weird but that was the number on their website.

Anyone know about the VoIP?

Do you guys have a problem with delayed sms's?
I just got three sms's informing me NOW of three missed call today morning (9.30am)!!!
I have noticed sometimes through delivery reports that sms's dont get sent straight away.
Am I the only one with the problem?

Cell C & Android Devices

I was wondering if anyone has bought a Motorola Xoom and if Cell's Speed stick would work with it?

I noticed my original question got "moved" to the Cell C FAQ, but I didn't want to know if my Cell C sim card would work with the Xoom. I wanted to know of the Modem will work with the Xoom, which requires a "driver"?
