CDMA and Cell C: Will a Samsung Epic 4g work in South Africa

Hi,

I'd like to buy a Sprint Samsung Epic 4g from ebay. They work on Sprint's 4g/WiMax network in the US, and I was wondering if any carrier, and specifically Cell C would support the phones?

Galaxy Tab 10.1v and CellC

Will it be possible to use your Speedstick sim card in a Samsaung Galaxy Tab 10.1v or any of the other tablets?

No. They won't work on our 2G networks. There is the tiniest of possibilities that 3G (and 3G only) might work on MTN and Vodacom, but not Cell C, since they use 900 MHz for their 3G network.

Neotel is the only CDMA carrier in SA, I know CellC is looking into CDMA for the "future", in other words they are talking about it but ETA is vapourware

According to the specs here is does support UMTS 900, so yes.

Thanks Ginggs. Now to get it at a good price. Ridiculous how much more it cost than a Xoom, iPad2 and Asus Transformer.

iPhone 4 and Cell C?

There has been a lot of confused noise on the myBB forums about whether the iPhone 4 is fully functional on Cell C's network. Some people say it works with limited network speed, some say it works 100% and others say it don't work at all.

If there is a Cell C rep onboard here, can you please answer the following questions for me about me porting my pre-paid Vodacom number to Cell C with an iPhone 4 as the hardware:

1. Will I be able to get the high speeds that Cell C advertise on my iPhone 4?

2. If the answer is yes, are there any limitations that I should be aware of?

3. Will I be able to use the Personal Hotspot feature of the iPhone 4 with Cell C?

I would really appreciate some yes or no answers. Thanks...

1. Yes. The iPhone 4 fully supports 900mhz 3G, unlike the 3G and 3GS. I've tested it, works fine.
2. Yes. You need to have 3G coverage, which not the whole country has, otherwise you're back on 2G.
3. Yes. Works really great.

I do not see the personal hotspot feature in my "settings" on the iPhone

I have been using a promotional bundle in my N900 for the 12 months and it came to an end at the end of November.
Yesterday I bought a 3GB/365 bundle and cleared my data counters.

Total sent: 0.64GB
Total received: 8.31GB

Average 3G data used per month: 764MB
