Typical African approach - we have a problem - we have a solution.



Hey Booi's we know what the PROBLEM is and what the SOLUTION is. Anyone have half a clue how we are going to implement this solution? No one ... EISH!!!!
 
Go into Windsor and you can see every second guy has a Smart ID. None of them born in SA or a previous permanent resident. Unfortunately SAPS not trained to ask questions.
 
The document last received a security update in 2000. This was when the document holder’s digitally-printed black and white photograph was added.

Absolute rubbish, the green ID book has never had a digital photograph. They have always only used an actual physical photograph for the green ID book. I applied for at least 2 green ID books in the 2000's, the last one being in 2009. None of them had digital photographs.
 
I am waiting, waiting, waiting - not so patiently anymore - for the PROMISED LOADS OF NEWBANK BRANCHES OFFERING ID AND PASSPORT RENEWALS - for the past year, or so. Promises, promises... Can't someone get their act together and FINALLY offer this service at more bank branches??? There is NOT A SINGLE BANK in North West where you can renew your ID and passport.
What is the hold-up???? C'mon - everybody is TRYING so hard to comply with all the millions of rules and regulations, accompanied by threats of deadlines, invalid after that, blah, blah,blah....
Then make it easier for people, get bee-hind in gear and let the banks offer this service even in the "forgotten and poor" areas of SA - PLEASE HURRY UP AND DO IT ALREADY!!!!!:X3:

There are more MyBB articles about these promised fabled new bank branches than there are actual bank branches.

There are s lot of us awaiting the fulfillment of these promises ...
 
Make it free like a previous Home Affairs Minister said it would be and you may get more takers.
 
1 - Get everyone to finally get the new smart id card because its "safer"
2 - Issue a new "version" of the smart id card because it has "enhanced" safety forcing everyone to go in and pay to get a new card and also getting a nice fat new tender.
3 - repeat every 5-10 years.

As long as the state can incentivize the process and make money off of it, it will be a very slow roll out, the ANC only do things they can make money from, if their is no income they simply do not bother.

Agreed, same here. We supply the photo at our own cost nogal...
 
One way yo get more people to get the new ID card, is to make it a requirement for voting in the next election. That just, might, get another 20% of the population moved onto the new card. Not going to get the majority of the population who are disillusioned with the ANC, and other political parties in the country to move to the new ID card.

But in all likelihood - most of that handful of people who do vote, already have the new ID card, so maybe not such a bright idea.
