It took me a while to find out how to do this, so I thought I would share the love, in case anybody else has also been stumped. This worked on my Smoothwall Express 2.0 install. Might apply to IPCop as well.

You need to edit the file /etc/ppp/ppp-on . I used the Joe editor, but you don't have to if you don't want. Scroll down to line 222 and change the values of MTU and MRU to your chosen value (1352 is supposed to be optimal for iBurst). Save, close and reconnect PPPoE - tadaaa!

# ifconfig ppp0 | grep MTU

should show whether or not it worked, for example:

UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1352 Metric:1

Hope that helps somebody out there.
