SMS and messenger link

Hi All

A while back I noticed that my SMS's appear pink on my android phone ( old Samsung s4 ). As I understand this is because of information sharing between apps, is this correct?

So my question is, if I am out the country and on wifi and get an SMS will it still appear like a messenger message would? Reason I am asking is that I need to know if I can access by online banking portal when abroad?
