Is it possible to send an SMS via a cell phone by connecting to mmsc.vodacom.co.za?

Or in more detail:

I have a cell phone connected to my PC and I can use it with NowSMS software to send an SMS.
The software has specific settings for Vodacom for MMS sending.

Assuming the phone is capable of sending an MMS this way, is Vodacom allowing me to connect to the gateway?

I get wap connection failures when I try. Now, it may be the phone or it may be me or it may be vodacom - any ideas?

For interest, the phone is a nokia 6680, and other users have confirmed it works, but ya' never know :)

Just in case someone needs it, the settings are:

URL: http://mmsc.vodacom4me.co.za/
WAP IP: 196.6.128.6
GPRS APN: internet

i have tried mms.gprs for the GPRS APN but the software hangs then.

OK, the APN needs to be mms.vodacom.net.
Changed this and it works fine.

I sent a few MMS messages, but now I cannot send any. I cannot even send them from my phone anymore.

Now, this leads me to think
1) There is a limit to the number I can send in a day?
2) I have been banned for sending MMSs (unlikely I would think)
3) There is something wrong at Vodacom MMS centre?

My account itemised billing on vodacom4me is also very odd.
I have 2 sms messages charged at 80c, and 8 MMS charged at -80c (yes, a negative amount). It does not show as a reversal for non-delivery?

Anyway, any ideas anyone?

Restart your phone and PC and see what happens? Does it work again?

I assume you've done the following in NowSMS:

Set up your phone as a GPRS modem and test.

Configure a MMS outbound Route with the following settings: (Looks like you've got them all OK)

Route via: MM1 (This might not make a difference)
server: mmsc.vodacom4me.co.za
WAP Gateway: 196.6.128.6
APN: mms.vodacom.net

Specify the same GPRS modem.

What happens when you click on "Test Connection"?

What is your message limit on NowSMS? Maybe you hit the limit?

1) No limit
2) Nope
3) Nope (cross fingers!)

-80c - Some promo maybe?

Thanks Vodacom3G.

I did manage to send MMS again later. Now, the problem is I cannot send to a CellC user (both from my phone directly, and by using the phone as a modem). The CellC user has the Vodacom mmsc settings.

I have not tried sending to a MTN user yet (will go get an MTN prepaid card today to test). The question is, can I send to other networks (I would imagine so?). I found a CellC information page that said that sending to CellC is only supported at the discretion of Vodacom/MTN - is there some political thing I need be aware of? (I have heard that Premium Rate is not supported on CellC 07* numbers - is this true).

Anyways, much fun is being had trying these things out! (If the boss is reading this, by "fun" I mean "tons of work"! :D )

It's called "research in pursuit of better productivity", never "fun", "fiddling", "playing", etc.

Each network will have its own MMS settings, so the Cell-C phone must be set up to send and receive MMS via its native MMSC.

The CellC settings seems very odd - those (the Vodacom ones) were the ones that were sent to the phone when MMS was set up a while ago (a long while most likely). Was there ever a time when CellC shared Vodacoms MMSC?

Also, does the vodacom MMSC send MMS along to MTN / CellC?
