take a look at smsworx.co.za cheaper sms rates, although you can only send smses to local numbers, not international.

Via Outlook?!?!?!

I had a quick look @ the website, seems like you can only send sms's via the mobile application. The websites listed above allow send sms's via the websites which is much easier as you don't need any additional software.

Outlook SMS

Hi Landyman,

Can you give me an indication of the volumes you envisage sending?

regards
Andrew

Isn't there sms application which installes on my phone and uses a gprs connection to send sms, not via sms centre. I dont send bulk sms's, so it will be for only about 10 a day. Will be nice.

From smsworx.co.za you can send messages using opera mini to access the website and send the message, there's no special java app for smsworx.co.za.

Not sure if the other websites listed above have that service.

Only thing to remember about the Email to SMS api is the unreliability. I work for a WASP and we do not promote or recommend this service for time critical messages. If your just looking for birthday reminders or nothing critical, then its fine. The problem lies with Outlook not sending the mail on time (users forgot to "send mail") and then email servers down or even worse, spam filters on ISPs capturing the intended mail.

(I personally use an IVR to email solution to populate requests in a callcenter application and I've seen emails take up to 10 minutes to reach my application)

But if your looking for something reliable and is time critical then you need to use either a web portal, an HTTP API or like I did for my wife who sends out appointment reminders, setup an SMS gateway on your PC with a modem and a telemetric contract.
