For the last six to eight weeks I have been battling with sms's on my mtn number (pay as you go, but have had it for four years).

SMS's that I send seem to go through immediately, but SMS's sent to me seem to be taking an inordinately long time to get through. Sometimes 3 to 5 days.

Some examples:

A friend of mine who has been in the UK for four months, arrived back in Africa on Monday and sms'd me to say he was back and wanted to chat. I only got the sms on Thursday.

Saturday two weeks ago another friend who has emigrated to the UK, sms'd a whole lot of us just before he boarded the plane to say goodbye. I only received the sms the following Monday.

My sister sent me an sms to ask me to pick my little niece up from school as she was running late, and I got the sms two days later.

A friend sms'd me a business card yesterday morning and I have just phoned him for the number as I have not yet got the sms.

I though it might have something to do with my handset, so swapped handsets, to no avail.

Nobody else around me seems to be having this problem! Any advice?

I have the same problem. My SMS's aren't delayed by a few days though. Those SMSs which are delayed, seem to arrive the next day. I am using MTN MyChoice TopUp

Hopefully Have sorted the problem out. I went into MTN at the Pavilion and explained the situation. the lady asked if she could test my simcard, adding that all unread inbox message could disappear. said fine and she came back acouple of mintues later saying there hd been 12 "errors" on my card and that thes could slow a sim card down and that she ahd now cleared these errors.

I asked her a little bit more and she said most commonly these were viruses, or other problems sent to one from other users, and that the errors were more common when using mms. Touch wood seem not to have had a problem since then!

Please can someone from MTN explain how it is possible to get a virus in a SMS text message?

I've only gotten virus's from Bluetooth I've never gotten any from MMS or SMS

Maybe she dipped your sim card in JIK :D

Or maybe she pulled a JZ on it, she put it in the shower to get rid of the virus!
