I hate the Ocean. Those cold, frigid waters but I figure since i'm living here I might as well make the most of it and explore it.

Any good beginners diving and snorkeling spots you can recommend?

Simon's Town has quite a few good beginner's spots to dive with shallow wrecks, generally good viz and even a cool shark alley. I know there are tours that take you snorkelling with Cape Fur seals...

Sissy. They are fine. They just check you out and some are quite playful. They are all curious.

That's what puts me off. Only been in the water once in my year here.

Last dive I did in Simon's Town was in a very comfortable 23 degrees.

Snorking in Cape Town? What do you see?

Even diving in Cape Town is somewhat limited.

Snorkelling off Gordon's Bay main beach is pretty cool when the viz is good. Otherwise, like I said earlier, snorkelling with cape fur seals is quite popular. There are amazing dive spots around here. Some epic wrecks and a few awesome reefs (granted, they are all quite deep and one should have their advanced certification in order to dive them).

Probably what I'm missing. :p Need to do my advanced divers, but don't fit in my wetsuit at the moment :(

Haven't been back in the sea here since diving in Mauritius, even snorkling was better there than diving here.

Snorkelling is sometimes better than diving. I went snorkelling in Thailand and there were divers with us. We saw way much more than they did. Plenty of Tipped Reef Sharks. Some of the divers were disappointed while all of us in the snorkelling group were in awe! My pops also cannot stand cold water diving any more.

.
Kelp forests painted with dappled sunlight and schools of fish. The fun bit is to try touch the sandy bottom .
There's a few folk who go out with spearguns. I like the snorkels which open and shut automatically which prevent you inhaling water. They are the dogs bollocks, and work like a charm.
