So frustrated with Telkom and their crap.

So our ADSL at home AND at the office is giving problems.

The ADSL at home has been problematic since July (about the time Telkom launched that free three month Trial).
I used to get almost perfect service.
I am about 2 kms away from the Meyersdal Exchange.
But now the speeds have dropped way down, especially in the evenings from around 5 pm to midnight.
I used to get a steady 420 kbps when downloading / around 3.4 Mbps when doing a speed test.
Now I am only getting around 100 kbps when downloading / around 0.3 Mbps when doing a speed test.
It is the same whether I am using OpenWeb, WebAfrica or Afrihost. Tested on all those accounts.
I have reported it over and over again, but Telkom keeps signing off on it as they say that they cannot find anything wrong.
I know there is something wrong though as multiple other users on the same exchange report the same problem.
When and how is this ever going to be fixed.
I keep reporting it and I keep calling them.
I will now be submitting all my references in order to get some kind of refund for at least 3 months of poor/no service.
My Home Router is an Intellinet ADSL2+ Router.
I will post line stats and speedtest tonight.

The ADSL at the office started giving problems last week Wednesday.
The line is dropping constantly. I have also tested it on multiple ISP accounts.
It is fine early in the morning, but then it starts dropping around mid morning.
At first the drops are about an hour apart, but as the day progresses they get more frequent.
I have also reported this numberous times and each time they "reset the port" but the next day it comes back again.
We are on the New Doornfontein Exchange in the Joburg CBD.
I can't get any work done at the office without it going down.
I have to wait sometimes 15 mins between being able to send or check e-mails.
Our Office Router is a Billion 810VGTX (the combo router with the 3G fallback).

Gary, been having the exact same problem dude, been a month now. Finally had a tech come out today (about an hour ago) and he told me he can't find the fault. Since he's left, my line has dropped 6 times and traffic has 'frozen' twice. Nobody wants to give much of a hooting hell to help and I dunno what else to do. So trust me when I say I feel for you bro, it's pathetic that we pay these clowns thousands every month and get treated like this. The most ironic part is that you're told because you pay so much, you're a Pinnacle customer and you're entitled to this and that and then still get the same shyte.

Well, the Meyersdal exchange is one of the last ones in Alberton that still need upgrading. I dunno why they are waiting so long to work on it. I've seen them laying plenty of fiber into it.

But the New Doornfontein Exchange is supposed to be 10 mbps capable. I've asked them to bump up our speed. But so far no sign of the speed increase.

I can identify with your home ADSL hassles, I've been running between +ISP+Telkom and my usenet service providers - because suddenly my speeds have gone to .... on this line.

I also live very close to the exchange, about 20-50 meters and it is not congested at all , very low adsl adoption rate.

I used to have dream connection speeds, suddenly it has also gone to ..... - it is noticeable, when you are used to your line/connection performing in a certain way.

Apathy is SA's biggest challenge

As the problem of slow speeds and poor service delivery actually seems to be on the increase (I too only get 0.35mgbs for my 1.0mgbs contract) I'm inclined to be paranoid enough to think it is a conspiracy within the halls of Telkom. Telkom's poor earnings and pathetic service are reflected in their share price. If SA were a public company I'm sure their share price performance would be on par with Telkom. Incompetence coupled with general apathy is a sign of the times in SA. What's needed is privatisation coupled with money-back guarantees on service delivery.
But which entrepreneur has the b*##s to accept the challenge?

I have the exact same problem for the past several weeks - with a 4096 line, speeds used to be reasonable (never wonderful!) but lately it has slowed to a crawl. I have an unshaped service from my ISP, Axxess, which should give me the max speeds the line is able to transmit - but am today finding that even ordinary web pages take forever to load, and email downloads where there are large attached files always time out, with the server logs showing that I was disconnected by the server as a result of 'inactivity' - in other words no data is being transmitted, in either direction!

I reckon this is entirely due to the state of the Telkom and SAIX networks.

I wonder how one can sue Telkom under the Consumer Protection Act? I am paying a bundle for a "high-speed" line but getting no speeds worth talking about!

Well, last night my line at home was MUCH better, so I hope they finally sorted that out.
But the office connections is even worse today and we cannot connect at all.
The help line say they have escalated it, and that the technicians are on it. but nothing is happening still a week later.

Sent Telkom SMS on 2nd August, followed up on 20th August with message on their website. Line noisy, ADSL intermittent. Had SMS on 11th November saying problem has been resolved. Still no ADSL and sounds like a large aeroplane motor when you pick up phone. Have disconnected everything connected to incoming line. Line from pole shows 3 VDC and 180 VAC, so some stuff-up somewhere (apart from Telkom that is). Accounts dept say I can claim a credit if line out of order for 20 continuous days, but when I tried to claim (on 20th October), they say I must have faults ref number and will only be calculated from the day I complained, Gave that to them, last I ever heard. November's invoice arrived today, no calls but line rental just the same, plus caller ID and Plus service.

Join the club. Had the same problem for over a month. Phoned WA 5 times already trying to get a Telscum technician to come check out the line. The Telscum technician always has some story says he'll phone back but never does.

Yes same prob plus mine disconnects several times a day. Have tried reporting many many many times but they always just say that they cant detect a problem and ask if it is fixed, then i say no and never hear from them again. There was a time where i reported it every single day for like a month and they did not even come out to my house even once.

And they wonder way nobody want any part of 8ta
**** you Telkom i really truly hope that you go bankrupt.

keep phoning & logging the same report over & over again.

Make sure to ask for your fault ref number.

Eventually a clever person will contact you....
