If they fire you don't different rights and rules apply? If so maybe consider getting yourself fired.

Also, I tend to agree with Debbie. I've also had a shyte 5-year stint in my past where I had to work my backside off for no real reward. At the end it was all worth it though. Man-up and take responsibility for your decisions. It's always easy finding excuses when you start looking for them.

Forget everything around you, live like a rat for a while, save everything you can and pay off your debt. Once all of that's done and the weight is lifted from your shoulders, you'll feel like a new person and you can start your life fresh. It really isn't that difficult. I saw my time as "army service" and got it over and done with.

Just a thought...

Huh?

She wasn't being harsh at all. She actually complimented me and said I could write. I've always been good at the written word. Even though I've had my moments.

Yes I fess up, I'm a dumbass. But like I said, I'm in no way wanting to run away from my responsibilities, but if they force me to have no choice in the matter then what else can one do? If my life depended on it they can go **** themselves. It's my life *stomps foot*

But anyway, I have a few options still needing to explore.

If I wasn't doing it properly then they'd be dead already. You have no idea what kind of **** I had to sort out for them the previous guy left me with.

With the handover I asked him, "So what work did you do the last 4 months" and his response was "Not much"

I couldn't understand why they didn't just fire him until I got to know the rules... tough country this.

And stop being sarcastic alf101.

isnt it possible to apply for work somewhere else, in places like kuwait, saudi... they always need some IT project manager. Look on the net for some jobs :) your boss wont find out. And i presume you cant have 2 jobs ? do you work full time and the office or do you work from home ?

Full time at office and I'd rather not stay in this region for any longer. Either way, even if I find another job it's going to be a question of

*flight block*
*freeze accounts*
*criminal case*

It's like playing WoW knowing you're going to wipe at the boss because you're not specced right.... or forgot to bring armor

well if they freeze your accounts, cant you just take all the spare cash and put it in your safe ? or in the banks safe ? so that you can always have access to it

I remember your threads about that which is why I ask.

You're sitting in Dubai doing a job that lots of people her would be really happy to do. But u just keep whingeing about it.
Make an effort to enjoy yourself and work hard.

Don't worry I'll leave this thread now.

Naw dude I enjoy your sarcastic (almost witty) comments :) You don't have to leave.

Since June I've been averaging 12 hour days 6-7 days a week. So working hard I've been doing. Finding time to have a life inbetween that is a bit tough so no, I don't enjoy my time here at all. I'm used to working this hard. I'm used to the crap people spew but it becomes increasingly "back breaking" when my responsibilities are overridden by those who gave it to me in the first place and then at the end blame me when things go wrong even though I advised otherwise.

This is my first time in such a position so I can moan and whinge all I want about it. I need input. I NEED INPUT. I can't live with the ****ing voices in my head so I'd rather just post here and "listen" to others. Even you :)

They freeze my bank account so I can't do any such thing. Which is the scary part.

take out the money you have now :p

now, do i understand it correctly, does this company need you ?
if yes, why would they want to fire you ?
if yes, do like the people from home affairs do, work slower and tell them that you wont be working more hours than you are paid for. if they really need you, you take them by the balls!!

They do need me. I confess. And I've started working slower/my hours I'm supposed to.

The 90 odd over time I racked up in September wasn't paid out and when I asked it to be converted into a few days of leave I got a (physical) pat on the back and a "We really do appreciate your hard work mate" from my manager.

Yes, like a pat on the back will give me back my weekends & sleep I lost. Bah. *and yes I'm complaining/whinging alf101*

:)

than why dont you get to work at 8, or 8:30 and leave at 4, or just past 4, and if work is not finished, you can finish it the next day. the moment your manager starts complaining, remind them that you have a contract saying so many hours, so much per hour... maybe the manager thinks he can mess around with you because you are from south africa and you need the money.. in most peoples eyes, africa = poor

Hehe, doing that atm, but as the IT manager I need to come in when the other people are here for support/work thingies (believe its called giving them work to do)

*sigh*

Well I did start freelancing on my Fridays. Fridays are business days in SA so I'm charging R1800 per month for 5 hours per Friday retainer on work. I'm also working on 2 website ideas which should bring in some extra cash if I do it correctly and then I have my gamecard business on the side as well which is chugging away nicely (but constantly having to struggle with suppliers sucks balls!)

I'm also in the process of organizing advertising boards on our house back home because we live right next to the N1 and visible going in and out of Cape Town, so I reckon an advertising agency would be interested. If I can do that and pay my dad x for the house I could rake in enough to settle the loan in around 9 months.

Trust me, I'm working my ass off to dig myself out this hole (note my words, dig, lol)

Just not sure how much longer I can take this **** here...

I will defend Waaib and his statement about knowing the right people. I have being doing a bit of reading on how "on the ground" politics work. For instance the death penalty rate is something silly like 75% higher for foreigners than it is for Saudis.

Saudis believe they are Gods chosen people (yep another lot), and are extremely arrogant (they make americans look like the Red Cross). A Saudi if in trouble has the option to often pay Diyya (or blood money) .. to the right government official to get out of most crimes.

All cases are judged by the extreme Sharia law and are not done or translated into English.

Its a very very bad idea to get on the bad side of a country with dismal human right records.
