Had half a 25 litre container if water leak out into my boot this week..

Now I am stuck trying to chase down just how far the water seeped into to the car and try dry it out before it gets mouldy...

Found water as far down as the foam underneath the carpet in the rear foot well.. now trying to lift the carpet as far as I can, to see how far into the foot well it's gone..

Really hoping I do not have to remove the front seats..

I am going away the weekend coming and need this to get dried out way before then, so I can get my car back together in time..

FML...

Got a fan or something going?
Nah.. I am removing anything and everything that is wet from the car.. looks like the water fortunately did not get further than the foam under the carpet in the foot well, so pulled that out now..

Fill your car with rice. Will help remove the moisture. Not sure how to remove the rice tho.

Actually pretty good. Made my first gluten free pastry, had cheese pies with it. Now fooling around with tbone(s) skillet to brown and then in the oven.

I have the carpets lifted to remove the foam underneath, so can dump the rice in there and then vacuum it out later.. worth a shot..

I'd would have just mopped up as much as you can and then used fans and a few hot days in the sun and it's all good.

It's just water, if it was coke or something sugary then you need to pull carpets and go deep.

According to the link I posted. There's still a chance of mold occurring.
Best to place some baking soda in a few containers around the effected areas for a few days.
It will absorb the moisture and help against mold.

Mould is my biggest worry here.. as soon as mould sets in, you can just about kiss your interior goodbye.. mould had already started growing underneath the bottom back seat and it was barely a few days.. luckily I pulled the seats out and caught it in time.. sprayed the affected areas with mould off and mould off and mould is killed now..

also, the water leaked from the boot, underneath the carpet in the foot well, so the carpet is self is dry.. all the bits underneath is soaked.. so a fan blowing over the carpet would have really not done too much to dry all they way underneath the carpet..

Going to let the car sit like this now for a good few days.. don't have space to park it in the garage, so won't be able to leave it open over night..

I thought mould was more an issue in colder countries, I once had a car that had a leak I couldn't hunt down for a while and the floor carpets got absolutely sodden a few times, like puddles in some places.

It smelt a bit manky for a while afterwards but the water would dry out in a few days and never had any signs of mould developing.

Once the leak was fixed the manky smell faded away and that was it.

Guess there are a few factors at play, but I already had mould growing and winter is also peaking its head around the corner too..

You should use the Big Green Clean Machine on your Mistuleaki
