The worst part for me is when they prick your finger for that sample; the actual injection part is often painless. I mean I look away for two seconds, it's done. I actually reckon it's getting better over time - I feel like a few years ago it felt worse than it does now.I'd love to give blood but have an extremely low threshold for pain. & that needle is the size of a hosepipe.
100% safe. You get tested, blood pressure and iron. It is also healhty for your body to make new blood. And you save 3 lives. How safe is it, to donate blood? I always worry about getting some sort of infection.
They charge from more than R3000 for govt. hospitals and over R4000 for private. Why can't they pay for my blood?
I must have a medical aid and pay to get blood.
The blood and tissue acts makes it illegal to be paid for any fluids or organs. There must have been a reason for this I guess people will be donating just to make money and not take caution to the 55 day awaiting period between donations but I am sure the systems would pick that up also People might start selling off their organs as well like kidneys or segments of the liver. Why can't they pay for my blood?

That, and you also might end up waking up on the side of the road drained of a few litres of blood once in a while..The blood and tissue acts makes it illegal to be paid for any fluids or organs. It's not that bad. I have tattoos but still scared of needles. I can see the holes from previous donations in my armI'd love to give blood but have an extremely low threshold for pain. & that needle is the size of a hosepipe.
Its very safe to donate never had an issue with infections however the person thats putting in the needle sometimes is not the best at the job I have a few issues where they couldnt find the vein or they hit a tendor and in one case slight bleeding under a layer of skin resulting in a scar. How safe is it, to donate blood? I always worry about getting some sort of infection.
Same boat as you dude, terrified of needles but I have donated like 12 times already, just know that the effort you are putting in and the fighting off the fear is going to save someone's life.I'd love to give blood but have an extremely low threshold for pain. & that needle is the size of a hosepipe.
Pretty safe, I donated up till 55 units, after that I stopped about 9 years ago. The last time was because it hurt to high heavens when some of the anti-coagulant was on the needle. That was the last time. How safe is it, to donate blood? I always worry about getting some sort of infection.
If they're that erratic likely everyone has given up on visiting that centre. The one by me is like never open on time (either they are not open early enough or they leave early).
The last time I donated I asked what number I was for them that day(before they closed) and I was only the 4th person.
