How are you doing nicci? I gave up 4 years ago and have gained weight but it's worth it.

Watch the triggers - mine were playing computer games and putting on my make-up :) and socialising of course.

Congrats Nicci.

When you get a craving, take your thumb and forefinger and press the skin between those same fingers but the other hand. Press until it hurts.

Congrats and keep it up.

I'm not a smoker and to be honest I've never smelt the difference between a smoker and a non-smoker.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my good news, as I am quite chuffed that I could give up smoking, I used to smoke so much lol!!!

Congrats! Good on you for going "public" with it. You can rest assured that someone will sometime resurrect this thread to check on you. So we're holding you accountable. Don't fail us ;)

I stopped smoking ages ago and will never smoke again. Pointless, disgusting habbit.

the physical part is pretty easy, its just the mental association that one has to get over as well.

Just dont go buy an e-ciggie lol

sheesh everyone is buying those things... the new rage and oh so stupid.

And these people think they can smoke them in non smoking areas. Still looks like smoke when they exhale. :(

Nicci,

Get the Alan Carr book - I stopped and didn't substitute anything - I just stopped and the book really helped.

Stress ball
Reverse psychology on yourself: remind other smokers of the negatives connected to smoking
After 3 months the hectic cravings should be gone
Craving should last only for about 5min at a time, so make sure you get through those\

:) I am here lol! I just ate some left over xmas food (lol) and made some coffee. Now going to shower and go to the shops, then come back and groom the dogs. If I just lie here facebooking and stuff I want to smoke, so need to actively keep busy. Gosh, now that I am feeling a bit better it is really getting difficult :( When I was sick it was easy to stop cos I knew it would hurt when I smoke... I am still sick but the fever and stuff has gone and not feeling so tired whole time.

That's always the problem with having a sore throat...smoking not nice. When healthy, different story - you have the being bored times, the after meal times, waking up times...eish!!

Nicci, honestly giving up (and succeeding) was probably the hardest thing I ever did (maybe the ruptured appendix was a bit worse). So it's going to be tough but it is well worth it. Just be prepared ... keep busy.

Each time you get a craving; I'd suggest either substituting it with coffee / tea (black with no sugar generally works the best & you won't be unnecessarily taking in excess sugar, as excess sugar is only going to make you eat more).

Basically for the short to medium term you'll be substituting one habit for another -- coffee / tea is certainly healthier than smoking, and fairly easy to cut back later without any consequence.
