So just found out the wife is knee...err.. head deep in debt...

Yoh. Life can be hectic sometimes. People in our lives make bad financial decisions and these become our problems.

My mom took 50k from Mashonisa (loan shark) and he started threatening her and she came to me for help. Parents are the worst sometimes. I give her monthly allowance and she gets money from government. The usual old age grant. But the loan shark will never be the problem again.

So question we have is, would this immediate pain be cheaper and less painful than one 10 years later when you have few kids and same behaviour continues?
Definitly cheaper and less painful now, I do not envy Serpents position - must have been a massive hard blow to him and a lot of guys would have just up and filed for divorce right then and there

oooooooh boy I hope you have thought this one through and your gf is not just using you as a stepping stone / cash cow. You're giving her free room and board etc for gobbles and a rodeo in return. We all do hope she is a proper honest decent girl.

To the OP, kids in fancy schools, luxuries, etc I think you need to sit down with yourself, you're going to die of a heart attack just to please the misses, your ego and the Jones's. You better be cooking bulk cheap meals, no booze, no desert, penny pinching, cheap old car, no maid, no gardener, government schools, no dstv, second hand everything.... but I don't think so.

Not to get too personal, but that’s definitely not what’s happening — she’s just terrible with money. Growing up, her family didn’t have much, so she went without a lot of things. On the flip side, though, that makes her great when it comes to managing limited resources, but give her large amounts of something and it's just thrown around. I, on the other hand, grew up a spoiled little **** — but funny enough, that actually makes me better at handling larger amounts.

I always found poor girl pxssy was better than rich girl pxssy.

The poor knew they needed to be good at something to fall back on if they couldn't get a good job.

I cut down on a lot of things since my wife stopped working, but one of the things I won't compromise on is the quality of my kid's education. I don't trust government schools, even in our above-average area. It's not about keeping up with the Joneses, it's just the reality of the education system in the country...

My daughter model c school teachers are mainly old white tannies, which means quality has not declined by much.

And yes, because of their age and skin colour I made that assumption.

There's 2 private schools in our area, 2 government primary schools and a government high school. No model c schools.

I would have been fine with one of the government schools, if they prioritised children from our area so they can grow together as part of the community. Like it was for me growing up in the 90s. Instead it's children who are taxi'd in from whichever townships, and the schools look like a taxi rank when it's home time.

Government schools are also susceptible to SADTU teacher deployments, who are deployed based on who they know. Which is another thing I'm not willing to risk.

This is why a new private school popped up in the first place 4 years ago. Because the existing one was running out of space and nobody wants to send their child to what has become a schithole. Nothing to do with keeping up with the Joneses...

There is definitely an element of this all starts at home.

Either through parents who never discuss money and how the world works to their kids and don't teach them the true value of it, or simply living on debt to start with and kids believing that is normal.

School system could also do better to educate kids on money, loans, insurance, tax and all that kind of stuff.

The amount of young people I see joining the workforce without any bloody clue is frankly quite shocking and that's how you end up with "kids" buying the latest iPhones on 36-month contracts and living on credit cards and residuals with balloon payments while saving absolutely nothing.

You have to find one where the teachers actually care, and so does the headmaster. Generally smaller schools.

However a video everyone should watch. The book is brilliant. My dad bought it for me when I was a kid. His job was to turn conglomerates around and take them from mega losses to huge profits. I only found out when dealing with his estate items how much he travelled locally and abroad for this.
