So some **** tried to jam my car remote

I was at the JHB Park station, as I leave the car I try to lock the car and nothing happens. I listen for the clicking sound when the door locks but this time nothing happens. I had walked a couple meters off, so I turn around and walk on over next to the car and try again and nothing still. Again, no dice.

So I stick the key in the driver's side and then activate the alarm with the remote. Obviously the **** realised I had noticed he was blocking me. Later on, I unlock and lock the car from a couple of meters just to be sure it wasn't batteries or something and find the car locks and unlocks just fine. ****ing idiot was likely lying down in one of the surrounding cars as I couldn't see **** anyone in any nearby car.

I have been sceptical about the veracity of this MO, but I know better now given first hand experience.

I also always listen for the thunk + check the door.
5 guys got arrested a few weeks back at our local spar, this one guy came out to find one of them in his car, security nabbed his accomplices as well.

Had one of these happen to me. Parked at a small shopping centre in Bryanston, out the car, car doesn't want to click shut. No problem, I start walking away and then suddenly swing round and walk to the car. Two guys were walking rapidly towards where I was parked. They noticed me coming back and took off at a sprint in the opposite direction. Got back in the car and left to go to another centre.

****s.

All you need is a gate remote. I tried it with my own car and it does work.

Yup, noticed this happening to me as well. Remote not working when I'm standing right next to the car.

Lucky you realized it.

I was a victim in December. I had been driving long distance back to JHB with my Audi A3 full of luggage, work laptop and other valuables in the boot. Stopped at a Woolworths food near my house just to buy few things. Came back and the boot was empty. :crying:

Learned my lesson to always lock with remote and verify the doors etc are locked.

I always wait for the doors to lock...

Glad you managed to notice it though, I can only imagine how soul destroying it must be to come back to an empty car (or no car)

The ****ers would have got my iPad and kindle. I had my wallet with fortunately, I must say it is by instinct that I listen for the clicking sound. And being Opel you have to press twice, once to lock the car and second time for the immobiliser.

True that - hold down any button on the blue nova remote. While holding it down, car remotes do not work properly at all.

I must try it with my own gate remote which I have on key ring.

It happened to me. iPad stolen from where it was hidden, between the seats. All caught on our CCTV system. You can see me press my key. The guy was standing at a bus stop, hands in pocket. He immediately walked over, as I walk away.

This happens, it's not always someone jamming your remote ;)

Indeed, but in the one specific case I have in mind, it was a good 30 or 40 seconds later when the car alarm finally activated. That's probably about 60 presses of the remote that did not make it to the car - highly unlikely to be any cause other than deliberate jamming.

I saw a VW Toureg lock itself after a few minutes of its engine turned off and doors being closed. This is a very good idea I think, especially in this country.

Kudos to you for noticing mate. A lot of people just assume it is locked and walk off. If only everyone would stop and confirm the doors did actually lock..

A few minutes is long enough for a criminal to open the door if you go out of sight. A system that locks when you walk away from the car with keys in pocket would be better - and raises the alarm if the lock fails.
