I saw a VW Toureg lock itself after a few minutes of its engine turned off and doors being closed. This is a very good idea I think, especially in this country.

Wait until you forget your keys in the car and you will curse VW and that feature....

Happened to me with my car at home once.. was unloading stuff and left the key on the seat... walked into the house to put down the first load, by the time I got back to the car it was all locked up.

Shouldn't it not lock because the key is in the vehicle? Same way, it wouldn't start unless you have the key in the vehicle?

If the key isn't in the ignition, then the car doesn't know where it is, and it just locks after a predetermined period of time...

Yes. That would suck. I still think it is a pretty good idea however. Maybe just make it that the car wont auto lock if the key is detected in the ignition.

We've been "remote jammed" at 3 laces in PE already... Greenacres (Woolworths parking area), Fig Tree complex (outside Spar) and at the Walmer Park (PnP parking area).

They failed each time as we always check and am now in the habit of using the key to lock and activate the alarm.

Then it's a poorly designed system. I thought you were referring to those that do not have a physical ignition slot for the key, start/stop button types with key in pocket is what I was talking about.

I've always been ludicrously paranoid about this sort of thing. I lock it and then do a walk around checking every single door including the boot. Just to be sure.

Then sometimes I walk a ways into the parking lot and get nervous that maybe I didn't check the doors well enough and so I go back and repeat the entire process.

Won't happen with cars that have keyless entry since they have proximity sensors to determine where the key is.

Yeah, the keyless stuff is a different ballgame altogether.

I just have experience with my 2003 Merc... not keyless entry and it would lock after like 2 minutes, unless the key was in the ignition.

Got a Tazz. I manually drop the drivers button ( which closes all the other doors). I then proceed to activate the alarm, which makes the beep noise.

also, Double check the boot is locked and my lights are switched off. ( I've had a few experiences of leaving the lights on. Now I physically make sure it's off)

So who's willing to donate a broken iPad/laptop/tech toy?

The idea is to rig said whatever up so that you can put it down your seat in plain sight, then open the door, close it, and walk away

Whoever then "steals" the iPad/whatever, get a nasty high-voltage shock  :D

edit : all the better to catch it on camera for enjoyment on Youtube... ;) :D

That's can be an annoying feature, locked my keys in the car like that before :D

Very annoying..

Thankfully I found out about it at home, where I could just walk to my safe and get the spares... If I had been out and about I would have been screwed because my safe key would be on the house keys, which would have been in the car :D

Guys watch your insurance company probably will not pay out if no forced entry. Put brick through window.
