I'm extremely vigilant when it comes to this and double check before moving away. I dropped my guard last night for whatever reason... And I think I was taken as well :(

I had two laptops, iPad, bike helmet and biker jacket, large suitcase with Ghd, clothing, photos etc in my boot.

I got home, opened the boot and they took everything barring helmet and jacket
What kind of car? Sorry dude. I have noticed that my gate remote cannot jam my colleague's F30.

2010 Audi S4.

Back in the day I tried using garage door motors and tested everyone's car at work to see if I could jam them.

Older BMWs could, but I also couldn't do the newer

One laptop was a work one, so that should be covered. I do have insurance but I heard they won't pay out for jamming.

Will try though

I was at the JHB Park station, as I leave the car I try to lock the car and nothing happens. I listen for the clicking sound when the door locks but this time nothing happens. I had walked a couple meters off, so I turn around and walk on over next to the car and try again and nothing still. Again, no dice.

So I stick the key in the driver's side and then activate the alarm with the remote. Obviously the **** realised I had noticed he was blocking me. Later on, I unlock and lock the car from a couple of meters just to be sure it wasn't batteries or something and find the car locks and unlocks just fine. ****ing idiot was likely lying down in one of the surrounding cars as I couldn't see **** anyone in any nearby car.

I have been sceptical about the veracity of this MO, but I know better now given first hand experience.

had it happen to me in a small parking lot, could see the ****ers who were doing it too. eventually managed to lock my car, and kept an eye on them from the window. they then sped off as i was on the phone

Sorry to hear. :( Did it happen anywhere close to home (i.e. anywhere I possibly frequent too)?

Wait until you forget your keys in the car and you will curse VW and that feature....

Happened to me with my car at home once.. was unloading stuff and left the key on the seat... walked into the house to put down the first load, by the time I got back to the car it was all locked up.

I used the unlock for the boot on my VW remote once...
It turns off the alarm and opens the boot only, then when you close it again it locks and turns the alarm back on.
Its quite a handy feature unless of course you accidentally put the remote in the boot and close it.
I was sure I had the car remote in my hand still but as it turns out it was the room key of the place I was staying, it was a Sunday and it was in the transkei...
I had to break a window to get into the boot because when a VW is locked from the remote you cant unlock a door even if you are sitting in the car.

If you press the lock button twice within two seconds you can unlock it from inside

I am not sure how this jamming thing works.
Over new-years we tried to jam my Civic's key-remote, brother in-law's Prado and his wife's 9N Polo using 5 different gate/garage remotes - no luck. Even activating all 5 remotes at once, button mashing/pressing repeatedly/pressing all 5 at once/pressing and keeping the buttons depressed and trying to lock/unlock each car made no difference whatsoever. Each car locked/unlocked each time without an issue, even from 10 meters away and the 5 remotes right at the cars.

Have the authorities apprehended someone that was found guilty of this who described the process and/or mods they make to gate/garage remotes for it to work?

I also thought it was one of those sensationalist old wives tales that occasionally spreads through smaller towns, but it actually seems to be true. I've had it happen twice at Birkenhead Centre in Melkbosstrand. Both times the car simply refused to lock and I had to lock it manually.

It's worrying how widespread the problem seems to be. These criminals are probably robbing people blind using this technique.

I have tried to do this at home with our gate remote but wasnt successful. I wonder how they do it. Sorry to the guys that have been a victim of theft. These criminals clearly arent stupid and this requires a lot of planning /effort. I cannot understand why anyone would go to such lengths to be a criminal, when you are intelligent enough to make something of your life and add value to society

I tested my BMW and the GF'S SAAB with her gate remote. It was one of those blue ones with the four blue buttons.

It blocked both of the cars.

My car was blocked at a shopping centre just the other day, I could not unlock it, they must have been trying to block someone else. After a while I tried again, and managed to unlock it.

Really?

Which BMW?

I have the same blue remote and can't get it to block my 1 Series.

I've managed to block the cars at home using a gate remote a few years back

Yes, once you have tested it on your own cars you are a lot more careful.
