I experience the same all the time. All you can do is just try to let it go.

I'm sorta over it and have let it go. For like the last 5yrs I just take some wors to a braai and concentrate on the jol/company/drinking rather. It's still wrong though in my eyes, saw this guy's succulent piece of aged rump on the grid not to long ago and thought he ain't even gonna get a taste of it and I was right :D

And then you get people that bring chicken to a braai....

If you read the OP's 3rd paragraph he explains the drawback to this approach.

Maybe he was questioning the whole bring and braai approach. I know when I invite someone to my house for a meal I don't expect them to bring their own food. Maybe a salad, or side dish at most, but the main is my domain. ;)

I have not seen anything like this since the 80's.

...you know the food is gonna be schite and I mean really kuk. Some people really can't cook and I'd really prefer to eat my slops.

I make up an excuse that I had really big & late lunch or something like that & I'll have a nibble of desert.

With braais every bodies meat gets chucked on the grid, some people just buy the cheapest toughest crap while others buy like prime chops or rump but when it comes time for dishing up they don't take their own crap but the good stuff and you end up chewing on sinew. fsck this makes me mall, these days I just buy some boerie to go on rolls.

I probably sound like a c**t, what's your opinion?

Just a bit like a c**t yes. Seen it many times. Just buy normal stuff. Happened to much already. I said fsuck dat. Go out and buy one of those combo jobbies. With all 3 types (chicken, sausage and a little choppie). You won't get your stuff. If you spend to much time at the food table then people know you the d00s looking for the special stuff you brought.

I've never had a braai where other people got meat that wasn't theirs. I supply salads and people bring their own meat and braai their own meat for the most part. You need some new friends bru :p

Also never had problems with bring and braai setups, I always bring great meat from the butcher that has gotten my family's business for decades and I always get my own back.

Sometimes it's a case where there's one braaimaster, sometimes it's a make your own deal, but I've never had meat stolen or taken the meat someone else brought.

Usually one dude braais. Because people don't smaak the smoke. Or they just plain lazy. It depends if it goes out in your container or to make it easier on the dude that's braaing all chicken at once, chops, etc.

Ja neh, nobody has ever taken my meat, except if I brought more than I needed and said, "anybody want?)...

You guys need some friend with respect I've seen huge arguments about taking another mans chops and it wont be the owner of said chops kicking up the fuss. Its like grabbing someones girlfriends ass.

I just bring my own meat in my own "braaibak", and only my meat goes in there when done on the grill. I usually eat last or the next day. So I don't like looking for my stuff. All my friends started to like this approach, now everyone is doing it. No hard feelings.
I once had it that some family members made up a doggy bag with my meat, leaving me with nothing.

I was invited to a braai a few years back; apparently I was the only one that brought anything.
Myself and the the wife brought some chicken and rolls, couple other things.
When it came time to dish; up our rolls had been replaced with old rolls and our chicken was gone.

I promptly packed our bags and left.

This I agree with.
You either ask if you can have one of their chops because it looks great or eat your horse and stfu.

My habanero marinade leaves my meat safe.... I only braai steaks at my place as I can control the fire, light, and how rare I want my steak.

Jesus guys. Pick better friends. I've never had a problem. Yes, I've had people eat whatever they get their hands on - but I don't have the problem of people being cheap or not bringing anything.

LOL - so DO not go because of the food then ...

ASK the host whether there is going to be plenty of SINGLE WOMEN or MEN (depending on one's preference) ...

IF you brought the food, you should be SERVED your OWN FOOD first ...

It's mostly "Bring n Braai" up here..... unless stated otherwise.... Most braai's you bring your own meat and dop, the host provides the fire and salads.... you bring your own braai bak..... and take home what you cooked....

Once a year I host a braai where I invite my family and real friends.... I provide everything except your dop, but I do provide 60lt of Windhoek draught on tap, everything else is for your own...

:)

Only been to a Bring en Braai once. I was really craving it also because I did not have braai for a while before the event. Bought a nice rump the day before and got up at 6 in the morning on the day to put it in marinade. Wrapped my boerewors in foil and put the rump in Tupperware and off I went to North Cliff with a six pack under my arm and food in the other. Got there and went to the kitchen with host to open a drink and put the food down. He took my food and dumped it all into a big casserole with chicken and other unknown cuts of meat with some kind of yellowish marinade. I only managed to get a tiny piece of my boerewors and two drum sticks and a piece of meat that took a bite of but could not eat. I left there without having a bite of my rump steak because it vanished into other peoples stomachs and my Tupperware also grew feet and was nowhere to be found.

I do not think Ponder is being difficult. My experience have left me not liking the idea of a bring and braai.

I think the whole solution to the problem is...... how good a friend are you to the host? Are you just attending "peoples" bring and braai's cos you were invited....

I ain't a shy person, only go to braai's where I know the folk very well and if the host decides to meatjack my vleis, I would speak out, if we are such good friends he would know where I come from.....

I hosted a braai a few years ago, where I supplied everything..... What fecked me off, was at the end of the braai, my own flesh and blood and his wife from across the colour bar, went out to their car and returned with two empty ice cream bakkies , they then proceeded to fill up the bakkies with meat, before leaving the (now ex) wife of my sibling still had the cheek to ask Head Office if she had any old clothes she did'nt want anymore.....

Needless to say, due to it being family, I kept quiet, but never invited them back until my sibling got divorced from her....

Not my best friend, but a very close friend. Have been to his place for a few more braais and him and his wife to mine but it was only us. No other people.
