Then I dunno what type of an Indian oke you are :D Seriously the meat colour varies from yellow to almost a rich red and then there is the danya, the wors is the same and packed with chillies and it's usually mutton.
Well the braais that I go to we use the usual braai sauces but the salads are laced with green chillies

^^hello food poisoning^^

:D

Better hope you don't eat any of that rare or medium rare, seeing as it's now properly contaminated with raw chicken...

Just want to elaborate a bit on my original post.

People arrive at host's house with meat and that goes onto a tray (still in packaging) and out to the braai. There's only one person that braais, the host. If he needs to step away for a second someone else gets handed the tongs, forks etc.

When braai is done all the meat goes into one 'braaibak' and off to the kitchen or dining table or where ever they setup the plates, cutlery, salads etc.
At this stage the women & kids get to dish up first and the guys wait for them to finish before helping themselves, the guy that did the braaing usually gets there last.
Nobody come's with their own containers to put meat in.

For some odd reason people will just grab whatever meat they fancy and it's not like they are scummy/****ty people either, if you dropped a R100 note they would pick it up and give it back to you.

I would never take anyone else's meat, I chose mine for a specific reason. I don't like lamb chops or T-bone steaks for example and probably wont eat them even if paid R50, so if someone takes my meat they are taking my stuff and that is theft.

If you take it to THAT kinda bring and braai you won't see it.

Can't say I've ever really had this problem, but then again I generally braai with the same crowd and the ground rules are well set. I usually bring a couple of rump steaks and the wors - as long as I get one of the steaks and some wors I couldn't care less where the other steak and the rest of the wors ends up.

Issue i had in CPT is that they love chicken on a braai

now i eat chicken off a braai but furk that ..steak and ribs are for the braai

So few bring n braais ended with me bringing out the good stuff ..and my mates always coming around with chicken and sausage ...and not any chicken most of the time wings

hated it

but normally at a bring n braai ...i braai so i know what meat is mine so i braai that nicely and have a few of the braai so im nicely stuffed when i get to the table

Doesn't really work like that in SA Indian culture, was quite weird crossing the cultural divide into the white world of 'bring and braais'. If someone is hosting a braai, they usually cater for everyone, with people maybe bringing desserts and booze to share. Or if there's a 'family function' each family will bring different huge dishes, usually enough to feed everyone there. End of the day the different leftovers are divided and taken home.

Lord help the family that delivers sub-par meat at a braai or dry breyani with mostly rice... The women will talk about it for the next 20 years :D

+1 :D

At braais the rule is you eat what you bring, and you all bring A) meat (enough for you and the laaities), B) a side, C) a drink.

No, somethings not right. I'll braai everyone's meat and put into their own container.

Indeed. However in my mind a bring and braai is bring your own meat and braai your own meat. This is typically what happens at my gatherings. Usually each party is responsible for a side or salad, their own meat and their own drinks.

Never seen that happen here, people don't arrive with containers.

Every bring and braai I've went to, everyone brings their own containers. They braai their own meat and dump it into their own containers.

Nothing would piss me off more than buying that fillet that was *** expensive and not seeing it because some ******* decided they wanted to have that.

...you know the food is gonna be schite and I mean really kuk. Some people really can't cook and I'd really prefer to eat my slops.

I make up an excuse that I had really big & late lunch or something like that & I'll have a nibble of desert.

With braais every bodies meat gets chucked on the grid, some people just buy the cheapest toughest crap while others buy like prime chops or rump but when it comes time for dishing up they don't take their own crap but the good stuff and you end up chewing on sinew. fsck this makes me mall, these days I just buy some boerie to go on rolls.

I probably sound like a c**t, what's your opinion?

I go to those kinda braais I take snacky food with that I can stick on the fire for a minute then stick in my mouth.

As stated by others...
Take your own braaibak and make sure your meat goes in it when it's cooked. Put it aside on the corner of the grid to keep warm and dish up for yourself from it.
Non of this, all meat goes into the lucky dip casserole, bull****.
If anyone has a problem with it - then they're not real friends

I tend to buy either wors or chicken sosaties for bring and braais, since you often have little or no control over what happens to your meat. Its harder to stuff up wors and chicken sosaties than it is to stuff up a good steak, so I only braai steak if there are only a few of us or if I'm doing it myself.

That being said, at the braais that I go to, people are usually pretty good about taking their own stuff only.

Host provides most of the starch, plus salad and desert (if any).

This. I'm also Indian and whenever we have/host events we always have more than enough left overs of the good stuff.

Bring and Braai strategy:

1.) Bring generic boerewors
2.) Get drunk
3.) After everyone has dished, go get meat. If your meat is gone, no big deal because it was of equal quality to whatever is left
4.) Go eat fancy meat at home where you have full control over it

If you dish up my braaivleis I will stick a fork in your eye. **** you, I paid for what I wanted.... Unless you are retarded, you should be able to identify your braaivleis so there is no excuse for not taking your food.

If it's a braai with family then anything in the meat tray is fair game... if it's with friends then you eat what you bring unless offered.
