Sociopath Feelings

I guess some have a better understanding of psychology.

Do they have feelings for others at all?
Do they have feelings for certain things - for example parents and siblings?

I've always understood the feelings aren't real and are feigned - but is that all of them?

I find i have strong feelings for certain things, but respond to most things "in a manner that is socially appropriate" , rather than a true emotive feeling.

I thought that was pretty normal though

They do have "feelings" for their parents and siblings. But they can manipulate the very same people they claim to love.

Remember, it is ALWAYS about them.

Sociopaths can have exceptions for individuals but as I understand it almost no one is ranked higher than themselves.

Think about it.the more you dislike yourself the greater the likelyhood you'll have fewer friends.
The opposite rings true if you have a high level of self esteem.More people will be attracted to you.

The question remains is it possible to really like yourself but despise everyone else?

Sounds like a valid comment.
I wouldn't put too much value to all the popular traits of mental disorders. Most research on sociopaths have been done on criminals and not in the general population (because a lot of sociopaths end up in jail).

I think the main difference would be the lack of empathy. They can't emotionally connect with other people, understand why someone would be hurt by that, see the world beyond themselves, self-survival, put themselves in others shoes or where others are coming from etc. (seems like this applies to more than anti-social personality disorder).

Psychopaths enjoy inflicting pain and suffering. Sociopaths are indifferent to the pain and suffering of others.

That first part isn't necessarily the case. You described sadists, and they aren't necessarily psychopaths.

Yeah, was a shot in the dark really. Been reading up on it a bit and I'm still not really sure. Looks like sociopaths are capable of caring for people they are close to while psychopaths don't care about anybody.

Yep, seems like it. Sociopaths are the nerdy, loser kids that don't fit in, but still tries to. Psychopaths either genuinely don't care, or they burn down the school.

They're a lot better at faking emotions too, I reckon. Sociopaths generally have antisocial personality disorder, so they can fluctuate, and still form bonds. Psychopaths might fake it for practical purposes.

Haha...No. Under modern usage sociopath = psychopath. Mainly because the distinction was so damn fuzzy that it was scrapped.

Nope. Bipolar or BPD disorder isn't the same as genuine psychopathy. Narcissism is a characteristic of psychopathy, though.

Bipolar and BPD are mood disorders, while psychopathy is a personality disorder.

Yeah. I think there is some debate around what caused the disorder. Sociopathy would be more about social factors and psychopathy would be more a psychological issues.
