Solar installers and suppliers

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Quite settled on the above quote, thinking through the redundancy and scalability. Not too concerned about the clipping. Should be fine. Now to wait for transfer, and then to book the installation.

I also prefer clipping.

Living in dbn, its cloudy all the time so I have to take what I can get.

I feel obligated to boast about my holy grail spinning disk meter which will save me a lot on battery fees.

Hi All,

Can you recommend a installer in cape town for solar system. Got 2 quotes and still waiting on another the as well

Got a quotation from pvpower.co.za for 90K with installation for 8KW deye inverter.

Got another quotation for fox ess inver to er 5 for 97K.

pvpower.co.za has a decent price but these guys never even came through to have a look, they just sent me the 90K.

Can you advise who you used and what price you paid of you don't mind.

You forgot to mention the price for comparison purposes.
I added it after I forgot to. I also looked at other guys like DRES and one or 2 others but this setup was a bit more, but opted for quality than cheap. Currently running off grid for now and will check when March comes how to manage to remain off grid for as long as I can. In other words for now municipal supply is off.

Used Somewatt Solar. Based in Southern Subs.

After sales service is pretty good. Had a string go down, sent them a mail and they had someone out the next day to replace a blown fuse.

Price... I had my system installed in the beginning of the solar hype, so it's probably way out of reality compared to now.

An upgrade quote I got early last year was 80k incl. for 2 batteries and 8x 545W panels

Do you mind providing the company name, looking for a trusted installer.

Prices seem to have dropped and looking to take advantage before it's to late.

Thanks, will reach out. Seems others have aldo used them here on the thread.

Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback. Reached out to a few of the companies and most of them are coming in @ 100K to 120K. Will make my final decision on the installer by next week.

System is 8KW Deye, 2 X 5KW batteries and 12 X 550W panels.

Just want some feedback form those that have the 8KW inverter installed. I have a solar geyser and gas stove that won’t be added.

1 - Do you ever go over the 8KW ?
2 - Do you have your entire household on the 8KW inverter or do you still have to limit yourself. Geyser or Stove ?
3 - Would going for 2 X 5KW be the better option, if yes…Does this complicate the setup.

Any other info will be helpful.

1. I have all going via the inverter and have a solar geyser as well, so oven, geyser is also on Inverter. If I put oven, geyser, and kettle on, I am touching about 6.5kW. I have a dishwasher and microwave and air fryer, so and need to manage them if I want to use them.
2. As mentioned all is on inverter.
3. You have redundancy

We ( family of 3) have a similar system installed with 14 x 550w's. Everything is on essential, including 2 geysers and the stove. With minor changes to our usage habits, we've been comfortably living off solar only for the last 5 months. I must mention that we have home assistant and we automate things to align with solar generation. Each family's needs will differ.

Entire household runs on our 8KW, only the geyser was split out to be on non-essential.
I do have to manage in a sense when we use our oven (gas hob), as our oven have 2x2kw elements.
Oven, pool pump, 4 aircons and the 3kw geyser will not all work together.
Pool pump and geysers are on smart switches and run during excess solar time in the day.

Thanks for the response, looks like 8Kw will definitely work.

The geyser is already solar, gas stove, no air cons. Only the 750W pool pump.
